The film festival submission process for, July and Half of August the short film I wrote (directed by Brandeaux Tourville, starring Annika Marks and Robert Baker) has begun.

Here’s a great picture of the director, immediately post-shoot, 3:30 a.m., foggy street in Burbank, holding the slate.

My deepest thanks and gratitude to everyone – exec. producer, producer, actors, makeup, grips, cameraman – who believed in my script and made it happen. No one does anything alone.

Good luck! I so want to see this.

and must add as a side-note:

The best part, right now, is that I have zero to do with this part of the process. My work is done. Now it has to live on its own (or not) and other people are in charge of that part of it.

    Phew!

  3. Lyrie says:

Good luck. That’s so exciting! It’s so great to follow your story’s story. Can’t wait to know more!

    • sheila says:

Thanks Lyrie! I haven’t even had a chance to watch the final cut yet – but have seen earlier drafts. Weird feeling – I wrote that … say what?? – but Brandeaux put together such an unbelievably talented team. Excited for whatever comes next.

  4. Helena says:

Yay!! Coming to a cinema near me soon, I hope.

    • sheila says:

:) We (or I should say “they”) are submitting it to all of these Shorts Festivals – there’s a bazillion of them – as well as Sundance, which is the proverbial long shot.

  5. Paula says:

Congrats! Can’t wait to see this.

Love that atmospheric pic of the director. 3:30 am on Burbank street must be an interesting time to be out.

It was so foggy and we were the only people awake, anywhere – no cars went by, so we cavorted in the big empty road as much as we want. It was really fun – by that time it was like we were all family and I had only known most of them for 9 hours – great!!

      • sheila says:

and – even crazier – Brandeaux and a couple of the producers all had a 10 a.m. Tee-time – meaning: that morning – to play golf. They were all debating just going to the golf course and sleeping in their cars until 10 a.m. We were delirious.

  6. Brendan says:

    YESSSSS!

    • sheila says:

Fearful and yet excited! Glad someone else is in charge!

      • sheila says:

The last conversation I had with Brandeaux he was talking about picking music for it. I’m excited to see what his choices are – I liked his ideas (but it will depend on whether or not said songs are affordable).

  7. DBW says:

I’m very excited for you. Would love to see this ….some day.

    • sheila says:

I’ll keep you posted. Nervous! This is the big festival-submission time – for next year – so it’s gonna get pretty crazy.

  8. ilyka says:

THRILLED! You put so much into this and were further blessed with people who cared how the ice looked, so this just has to be a hit.

    • sheila says:

Oh my God, yes, the ice cubes!! – bless you for remembering. I had forgotten that. So great. Detail-oriented guys, the lot of them!! I’m psyched that they’re proud of it too.

  9. Ken says:

Yay! Congratulations! I’ll look out for it in Ohio and/or Pennsylvania.

  10. Jessie says:

the submission date for our local film festival has sadly passed but I selfishly hope your team gets a chance to submit next year so I have a shot at seeing it!

  11. carolyn clarke says:

Good luck and every success! Loved the ice cube story.

  12. sheila says:

It’s a strange but good feeling knowing that it’s not really mine anymore. It’s Brandeaux’s – and I feel safe putting my “child” into his care. I’ve had that experience before with this script – with all the various workshops of it – there’s a point where you have to let go. Stop trying to control it. Let the actors do their thing, let the director tweak … whatever. I love the whole process. Look forward to whatever comes next!

  13. Desirae says:

Holy cow, good luck! Or break a leg, whatever you’re supposed to say to screenwriters!

  14. Todd Restler says:

Good luck Sheila! Whatever happens be proud of the work you did and enjoy the process.

That shot of the director is spellbinding, if he ever writes a book or something that is the cover.
