New Book: What If? A Chronicle of What Might Have Been, illustrated by Annie West

whatif

Annie West is a wonderful illustrator from Sligo, Ireland. I’ve been a fan of her stuff for years.

Her latest book, What If?, features entries from a long list of writers (including yours true). Annie asked each of us to write out a “What If?” (I pitched her a number of ideas, and she picked one of them), and once we passed in our entries, she got to work creating illustrations for each one. I cannot wait to see it all put together. I also love the Irish-ness of most of the names of the writers. A talented bunch!

What If? is coming out tomorrow (in Ireland, anyway, not sure about its availability elsewhere), but here is the publisher’s announcement, with click to purchase. If you go to that link, and read the description of the book, you will probably instantly recognize my contribution. I cannot wait to see Annie’s illustration for that. I cannot wait to see everybody else’s entries too.

I’ve loved being involved in this. Once again:

I thought both the first and last examples could have been you… but I’m going with the last one. And I like that!

    Congratulations, this looks like fun!

I can’t wait to see her illustration for mine. And all the rest, too – it’s a great bunch of writers!

(and the Irish-ness of the majority of the names is also pleasing to me. My dad would laugh, looking at that list.)

They took my money, so it looks like they’ll ship to the US.

Ooh, good to know! My copy has yet to arrive.

Good to know! Congrats on the anthology, Sheila! Can’t wait to read yours. What if scenarios are one of my favorite things to explore, that idea of history ricocheting off into a different reality at a specific point. All those possibilities and the writer pulling out their version. Lovely.

Paula – I know, right? Sometimes the “what if”s are sad – especially if someone has died young (or youngish like Elvis) – I tried to make mine positive and also somewhat silly – since Elvis would have kept on being Elvis, and he did many wacky things. because he was an eccentric superstar.

It was fun to give him a happy ending.

Ok, this is spooky. I check your blog most days to see what’s new and interesting and what I should be reading, or viewing or whatever. This morning, I see that the title of today’s blog is “What If? A Chronicle of What Might Have Been.”. I am puzzled because I am already reading a book entitled “What If?”. Can we both be reading the same book at the same time? Weird. However, when I read the entire blog which I should have done in the first place (forgive me, I hadn’t had my coffee yet), I realize that your “What If” and my “What If” are entirely different books. Okay, sanity restored until I realize that both authors are doing the same thing. To steal from Paula’s comment: //that idea of history ricocheting off into a different reality at a specific point.// Must be the universe speaking.
