Dear Comrades! is extremely my kind of thing

Written and directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, Dear Comrades! is about the 1962 Novocherkassk massacre, as seen and experienced through the eyes of a woman who is still a true believer in the Soviet Union’s goals/socialist Utopia/etc. A “Soviet woman” through and through whose whole world view is challenged when the unthinkable (at least to her) happens. She is used to abstractions. She can’t believe in reality when it arrives. Very well done, not just in terms of giving the background of the scope/horror of that massacre, but also about how … dreams die hard. The totalitarian mindset, the LEVEL of brainwashing through propaganda that has to have occurred – over generations.

This film feels dangerous.
