Guess: Where the red fern grows?

    Is this Charlotte’s Web?

  3. red says:

Yes! “Papa” is taking the “ax” to go kill the runt Wilbur.

Wilbur. I love Wilbur so much. Charlotte’s a pretty damn wonderful character, too.

The last sentence of the book (or last 2 sentences, forgive me) never fail to bring tears to my eyes – I have tears in my eyes right now.

“It is a rare thing to meet someone who is a good friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both.”

    wahhhhhhhhh!!!

  4. red says:

Actually that “rare” thing is probably a paraphrase … (don’t have the book with me)

The sentiment of that sentence (however it is worded) is how rare it is to meet a person in your life who is a good friend AND a good writer.

And then EB White pulls your guts out with: Charlotte was both.

It’s been ages and ages since I read it, but it’s a wonderful, wonderful book.
