A green hunting cap squeezed the top of the fleshy balloon of a head.

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole.
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole.
Yes! Yes!
A book I can’t believe I still haven’t read, despite three years in New Orleans.
Oh God, you have GOT to read it!!
I’m sure. And you have GOT to go to New Orleans! :-p
Can you think of any other character in literature that this could possibly describe?
Please, if you will for a moment, imagine the film, produced by Drew Barrymore, starring Adam Sandler as Ignatious Reilly. That was the last plan, though I think the production’s been moth-balled (again).
emily, PLEASE tell me this is a joke.
Adam Sandler doesn’t have the chops to play Ignatius O’Reilly.
The thought of him – even bulked up to the requisite size – leering at the camera, supposedly in the persona of The Unrecognized Genius, makes me shudder.
I lied. Actually, after double-checking, it’s Will Ferrell, though I’m not sure which would be worse.
Don’t venture down to the IMDB message board for that entry, unless you’re feeling brave. There are comments like “you people are so stupid. How can you say this movie will take place in the 60’s when the Civil War happened in the 1800’s?” (in the 1860’s incidentally, though that’s got nothing to do with the setting of Confederacy.
Do you remeber Ignatious’ obsession with a certain photograph of a naked woman sitting on a desk reading a book? Remember he got all excited about how this woman might share in his own personal “world view.” Does anybody remember the nmae of that book?
