Yankee Doodle Boy

It’s James Cagney’s birthday today (thanks for the reminder, Kim), which I didn’t realize yesterday when I wrote the post about Cagney’s death scenes, so in honor of his birthday today, here is a clip I love from 1955’s The Seven Little Foys, with Cagney and Bob Hope, hoofing away on top of a table. Sheer liquid joy.

Loved the way Cagney danced. Always up on his toes, always with those sharp angles. It looked so effortless and so classy.

Thanks for that, “sheer liquid joy” and then some. We’ll never see their likes again. Ever!
    Best,

PS: Great new look to your blog, by the way!

Scribbler – Thanks!! I’m happy with it – much simpler, and hopefully easier to navigate.

And yes: watching the way both of these guys dance … We are so fortunate that we got to have them at all! I love when Bob Hope suddenly does these big wing movements, like he’s out of control – the sense of competition between the two men is great!

Hope you are well and staying cool in this sweltering summer. Speaking of “sheer liquids”, which you dispense to the masses.

Rob – I love it too. How he kind of juts his body forward, his ass sticking out, and his legs going ramrod-straight down. Totally Cagney style – you would recognize it anywhere!
