More on Big Dan here.
(And Dan, I love the URL to your blog … it is a Roald Dahl reference, is it not?)
I wanted to point to some other examples of what you can find on Big Dan’s blog:
A post on James Dickey (one of my personal favorite poets … not to mention the author of the nightmare of a million men Deliverance)
Andrew Wyeth … that painting
Big Dan’s post on Sandra Bullock’s donation to tsunami relief
A nice excerpt on the artwork of Escher
2004: A Fantasy Football Odyssey
There are many many more. He’s always up to something interesting and unexpected.

Good call Red… I especially like the James Dickey biography.
Sheila,
RE Roald Dahl.
I loved the book “Danny, the Champion of the World” when I was a kid, particularly the part about sewing up raisins with sleeping pills for the birds to eat.
Over the course of my childhood, I received no less than 10 copies of that children’s classic. My name is, in fact, Daniel Champion.
“no fewer,” of course. God, I’m tired.
Your name is actually Daniel Champion? Wow.
CW – I liked that, too. Always been a big fan of James Dickey – not just his work, but how he lived his life.
Doesn’t everyone named Danny receive multiple copies of that book?
Dan,
True that.
But with my last name being Champion, everyone in town thought they were the most clever thing going with that gift. I even got a copy at age 16.
Big Dan -
that must be like people who sing “Oh – Oh – Sheila …” right at me, thinking that they are the only person to EVER do that.
Or “I’m Not Lisa.”
Like I’ve never heard of THAT song.
“Danny Boy” gets a lot of play, too.
The worst was when I was dating a girl named Brandy.
Yes, world, she was a fine girl.
I’m bummed! There are no songs with “DeAnna” in them!
The first time I heard Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac, I thought they were saying “DeAAAAAnnnna” and I was so excited until someone took pity upon me and set me straight.
Um…..wow. Big Dan is one of the coolest people on the net.
Um…..wow. Extraordinary, Sheila. And thanks Big Dan.
My maiden name is Noel, I think by the time I was 8 I hated the “First Noel” with a passion.
