“Take the Scissors and Throw Them Because WHY DO YOU NEED THEM?”

I post this helpful tutorial from Katharine Hepburn (aka my good friend Alexandra Billings) every year. Just in case you need some ideas for decorating your Christmas tree.

Oh, Alex. I love you.

I literally laughed out loud and my husband wanted to know what was so funny, so I showed him. He laughed harder than I did!!

  2. Lyrie says:

OH GOD ! I laughed so hard I peed and scared the cat. She’s crazy! She’s perfect! WHO IS that woman? I have to check everything she’s in. NOW!
    Thank you, Sheila!

Alexandra Billings! Good friend of mine!!

Currently in the TV series Transparent – on Amazon Prime.

and yes: she is OUT of her mind.

Katie’s Corner is a whole series on Youtube. This one might be favorite – where “Katie” tackles the topic of “Women in the Workplace.” “Katie” interviews Chrisanne – who is actually Alex’s wife in real life. Chrisanne is awesome, and talented, and hysterical – and watching this interview never ever fails to make me happy. Chrisanne is not allowed to get a word in edgewise.

  4. Jessie says:

“You’re fascinating, absolutely fascinating” will be my go-to dismissive/sincere compliment from now on! hysterical.

    • sheila says:

hahahahaha also, how could she know she was “fascinating” when she didn’t let her get one sentence out!

      Soooo funny.

And poor Chrisanne actually IS working – and part of her life is dealing with a spouse who occasionally does stuff like this. hahahaha (And of course Chrisanne loves it. These two have been together since they were 12. Literally. They met during a middle school production of 12th Night. Friends, to something more, and here they are, 50 ?? years later – doing THIS skit. Hilarious.)

Alex said on FB when we were talking about Katie’s Corner: “There must be something terribly wrong with me.”

      dying …

  5. Jessie says:

Awwww what a lovely story! “There must be something terribly wrong with me.” — well look — to channel the spirit of Hepburn requires a rare constitution, it must be a burden as well as a privilege.

    • sheila says:

Joan Crawford put a donut on her head and said, “Icky icky oo oo”?? I mean, it’s insane.

      Definitely a burden.

She’s actually done Katie’s Corner as a live improv show in Los Angeles – I’m so bummed I haven’t been able to make it out there for it.

    Sheila

I just see Alex and I start laughing at this. You can’t tell when she’s improvising or what she has worked on, she’s so quick, that cherry thing is so ridiculous, and all the throw away stuff, amazing! The clip with Chrisanne is hysterical, “Go on with your story.” Chrisanne’s expressive face and quietness is a perfect foil for Alex. What a great story of these two, they are perfect together!
I’m getting to Rebecca West, and all kinds of stuff you have up, I have to still see ‘A girl walks home alone at night’ and my husband who is just getting into Yeats now just said, “Ever hear of this Maude Gonne, she seems pretty interesting.” “Yes! Because of Sheila!” And directed him to it.
Just wanted to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and all that to you Sheila, thanks for all your hard work and deep love of books, art, music, well, everything! Regina

    • sheila says:

“ever hear of this Maud Gonne …” hahahaha Funny you should ask!!

I know, Chrisanne trying to deal with Alex – who will not let her speak. I love when she exclaims, “THIS IS A BOOK OF NON-FICTION!”

And yes, the cherry: “I haven’t had one of these since 1923.”

Please give my best to your husband – and happy happy holidays to you both!

      xoxo

Also I don’t know for sure but I am pretty certain that Alex sat down with all of those objects – and had ZERO idea of what Christmas ornament she was going to make. She had NO plan going in – she just made it up as she went along.

I dreamt of her last night. I think I’m falling in love. I’m also in love with their love. So beautiful!

  8. Lyrie says:

I was sick last week, and feeling a bit down after a few days stuck at home. I went on Youtube to watch Alex’s videos. I started with Katie’s corner but watched other things, too. (I kinda felt like a creep, doing that, but I figured she put them online to be watched.)

She made me laugh, she moved me to tears, her input on the audition process and the way she’s still enthusiast about it all… She made me feel so much better! I LOVE her (and her awesome wife).

I’m so glad I stumbled on this website thanks to Supernatural. You’re awesome, you have awesome friends, and I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world.
    THANK YOU.

(Obviously, I’m feeling better. Or it’s the medication talking. WHO CARES?)

  9. Hillary says:

She’s got Kat Hepburn on LOCK! So funny, so glad I caught this!! Didn’t know this was something I needed until I saw it. Thanks for sharing! PS can they just make Transparent all about her character now? Cause she’s incredible to watch.
