      Yeah, that Marvin Gaye … wow. Not sure if you’ve read this but there’s a big piece on Grantland about that performance:

      I also love that Jose Feliciano – who had caused a similar shitstorm in 1968 (clip also included above!!) basically says, “Yeah, great. But I did it first.”

      Nowadays, their versions are pretty standard fare for the national anthem. (Well, maybe not Marvin’s. That’s his alone). But still: people do all kinds of stuff now with that melody (too much, in my opinion). They were the trailblazers!
