Faces I Love, part 4

(For those of you unfamiliar with this – here’s part 1, part 2, and part 3)

The wonderful Dennis started it all here … and I LOVED the idea.

To think about faces I love – and not just because of their physical beauty or that I’m crushing on them. There are many reasons to love a face. And then to search out photos that really illuminate what it is about the face I love so much. And to NOT EXPLAIN. To just post the photos. There was a simplicity to the approach that really appealed to me.

It goes along with the theme of “celebration” that I want to create on this blog.

So Dennis: THANK YOU for the idea!! (More from Dennis in this same series here, and here)

Oh, and I think I’ve repeated myself a couple times here with a couple faces. So be it.

And here’s round 4!

  1. Eric the...bald says:

Annie Lennox is so comfortable in her own skin…so cool.

That is an expression not often captured on Lily Tomlin. Cool photo.

And Mr. Hooper! Just seeing him makes me happy.
Although my favorite Sesame Street face is Maria. Yowza.

  2. Emily says:

Hehe. Jack O’Callahan with his missing teeth. I love it!

  3. red says:

And poor trapped Mike Ramsey. Wonderful!! But yeah – it’s the jack-0-lantern mouth that kills me.

  4. ricki says:

Awww! Mr. Hooper! Brings back good memories.

And I love Gene Wilder’s face, too. And Annie Lennox. She is just gorgeous no matter what her hair color is or what she’s wearing.

And the man who is 9th from the bottom – I feel like I KNOW who he is, but don’t quite recognize him. Is he a poet?

  5. red says:

Let’s see … The one who is 9th from the bottom is Charles Laughton. What a face. One of my favorite faces in all of movie history!

  6. red says:

Kenneth Mars is so delightfully nuts!

    Springtime for Hitler!

  7. Ceci says:

Michael Cera! I adore this guy!!! I smile just seeing him.

I enjoyed also seeing a repeat of Ewan MacGregor, haha! He would also appear repeatedly in my list!

Also loved: Gary Cooper (swoon!), Charles Laughton, Lars Ulrich (yeah!!!) and Dean Stockwell’s eyebrows. And those beautiful ’30s actresses, Irene Dunne, Kay Francis. Love me some ’30s glamour!

And I may have a girl crush on Amanda Peet, that woman is gorgeous.

  8. red says:

Ceci – I am so psyched that someone recognized Kay Francis. Yay!! What a WOMAN, huh? Nothing coy or girlish about her – just straight up WOMAN. Beautiful!!

And yes, Lars Ulrich going nuts!!

And Dean Stockwell’s eyebrows are eternal.

And Irene Dunne’s ridiculous outfit and bright smile. I love her!

  9. red says:

Oh, and I totally agree in regards to Amanda Peet. It was Something’s Gotta Give that pushed me over the edge … she was absolutely adorable in that, moving, and totally held her own with those mega-stars. LOVE HER.

  10. Hank says:

That’s an interesting picture of Dennis Hopper.
    Where is that from?

  11. Jen W. says:

I love Harry Dean Stanton- oops, I mean Dean Stockwell’s- sweater. :)

  12. red says:

Hank – it’s an Andy Warhol!

  13. red says:

    Jen – hahahahahaha

I know – look at the sweater, and the collar peeking out – and the necklace. He looks so … freakin’ YUMMY in that picture, as far as I’m concerned. In all his ratty early 70s glory.

  14. Su says:

    That’s a Warhol? Fantastic!
I agree on Amanda Peet – she’s been in crappy films, but I really adore her. And Annie Lennox you just have to love, as a woman, as an artist…

All the pictures are wonderful, Sheila, as was to be expected…;-)

  15. red says:

Ted, I know! There were all these glamour shots of her online – she’s so lovely – but I wanted to find one of her in action. It’s not an ideal picture of her – but it gives an idea of the rawness and openness of her face, I think.

  16. jackie says:

if you insist on including jon bon jovi, you MUST call this post “ABS I LOVE”

    uz, uh bubbita ba…

  17. red says:

hahahaha I love that you spelled out bubbita ba … i’m dying!!

I remember Mitchell and me looking at some picture of Jon Bon Jovi and we were totally silent for a while and Mitchell then said totally seriously, “Jon Bon Jovi’s butt … is like something from the Lord.”

  18. Tommy says:

Zero Mostel. Now there’s a guy who could drag me out of a whiskey and a revolver funk.

He’s one of those guys I just live in awe of…

  19. mitchell says:

i just saw Audra McDonald and Patti Lupne last night at Ravinia..ravishingly good..both of them!

  20. Sal says:

The seventies were SUCH schlock, i apologize for the polyester- that photo is an icon.
that’s the most beautiful picture of Cooper I’ve ever seen. He hardly seems mortal.
    Michael Cera – that cutie!
    I’m sorry – I’m stumped: 8th from the bottom?

  21. red says:

That’s Nora Joyce, James Joyce’s wife.

  22. Kate says:

    Radiant Irene Dunne.

  23. red says:

Kate – I think that’s from her entrance in The Awful Truth. hahahaha

    “Me jujitsu!”
    “Me jujitsu too!”

  24. Another Sheila says:

    Mr. Hooper!!!!!!

    George Michael!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. sarahk says:

George Michael Bluth! I *adore* that face!

  26. red says:

I love his face – I just saw Superbad, and he’s terrific.

  27. Natalia says:

I think you’re missing Montgomery Clift and James Stewart ^^ (next to a lot of the already posted they’re two of my dearest ones :D)
