I love the moment he chooses to turn back and look. It’s not too soon – which would have made it schmaltzy – and it’s not too late, which would have lessened the impact.

Also, he starts the speech wrong, which is why he pauses – I am just realizing this now. He starts out by saying, “He that lives –” and then pauses. When I first saw it, I just thought he was unsure of whether or not to continue, maybe shy – but now looking at the text below, I can see that it’s because he knew he had screwed it up. He had started wrong. When he starts again, he starts over – and gets it right: “He that OUTlives …”
