I love this post about Barry Bonds' recent infamous outburst:
"I wiped him [Babe Ruth] out. That's it. And to the baseball world, Babe Ruth is baseball, am I right? I got his slugging percentage and I'll take his home runs and that's it. Don't talk about him no more."
Oh, shut the f*** up, Barry.
And you don't want to be in the Hall of Fame with all the white players? Fine. Be a big freakin' baby, then.
I haven't encountered Tainted Bill before ... I really enjoy his blog. Good stuff.
(I found him via Emily Jones, one of my idol-bloggers.)

Carry is one of the least likable stars in the game. No matter who you are, you can't trash the name of the Babe.
Posted by: Bill McCabe at July 23, 2003 4:01 PMTo all the Bond hater' out there. Stop being a racist and enjoy history being made. Bond may say stupid things, but the fact of the matter is, he is the best of all time. Please stop bring up the Babe. He was awsome, but he played in a watered down high winning percentage team.
Additonally, there weren't any Black players which totally changed the game. Long live the king of baseball!

So any time a black person is criticized it's racist. is that correct?
Bonds is the one who would prefer to be in the Black Hall of Fame- rather than be in with the rest of the white players who came before him.
Posted by: redhead at July 31, 2003 7:35 AMFirst of all, I resent being called a racist because I think Ruth is better than Bonds.
Ruth may have played in an era without blacks, but he also played with a deader ball, higher mound and sans steroids. The team's winning percentage doesn't matter, because a batter competes against a pitcher. It's an individual competition.
As for the lack of diversity, like I said, batting is generally an individual competition, and most pitchers in the league are still white.
In case you doubt the effect of the live ball and lower mound:
1927 AL HRs per Game: .35
2001 NL HRs per Game: 1
In other words, Barry plays in an era where homers are three times as common. Even taking some points from Ruth for the short right field porch at Yankee stadium, Bonds doesn't measure up.
One last thing, let's see Barry Bonds match Ruth's 94 wins and a 2.28 ERA.
Posted by: Bill McCabe at July 31, 2003 4:03 PMG is as illiterate as he is incorrect. rather than argue with a man who says "there weren't any Black players which totally changed the game" i'll simply say G needs to lay down the pipe.
So, what, black players forced the white man to bring the game to a new level? good ball players have been good at all they do for quite a long time. josh gibson was a great HR hitter. Satchel was great on the mound. doesn't make a difference.
Turkey stearns was great in the infield. Judy Johnson threw a damn hard ball. color doesnt matter. talent does.
50 years ago, you can argue that the reason ted williams doesnt have the best stats is because he left during the war to fight for a few years. bonds plays in an era when talent doesnt get you there - rather, years of training for that particular sport with help from endorsements, and a major league daddy do.
they might both deserve the hall, but bonds is far from the best ever. G you should take this opportunity to kill yourself.
All I got to say is that, Barry Bonds is the greatest to have ever played the game. If Barry played back in the days with the babe he would've maybe hit over 100 homeruns. And if the babe played in our time, he would of only hit like 30-40. Barry is not only a better homerun hitter, he's a better base stealer, has more walks, beats babe's slugging %, better defense, etc. I'm not tryin to hate on the babe...he was good, but in his own time. Another example, if you were to put babe ruth against roger clemens or randy johnson or even jason schmidt, he would probably only get 2 hr every 13 ab's. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would agree if Barry wasnt such an asshole or if he was a white man.
Posted by: Ian at January 22, 2004 5:57 AMIan,
Please chill out with pressing "Post". Damn, man, now I have to delete all that shit. You write "All I got to say" and then you say the same thing 6 times.
And I'm sick of this conversation. I posted it a long time ago. And I am sick of being accused of racism (like your last sentence does) just because I criticize a black person.
Roger Clemens is an asshole. He's white. Barry Bonds is an asshole. he's black.
Assholes are assholes.
Dear Morons,
Roger clemens hmmm ever hear of walter johnson, eddie cicotte, grover cleveland alexander. Babe Ruth was the greatest player ever because he played in an era of small ball and introduced the big inning to the game this is after he was considered one of the predominant left handed pitchers in the game. The Babe hit well against some of the greatest pitchers in the history of the game. Barry Bonds is an asterix waiting to happen as soon as his steroid use is exposed and players like McGuire, Bonds, Giambi and Sosa are exposed for the cheaters they are.

Posted by: red at April 6, 2004 3:17 PMBill - I agree with you, by the way - my comment is not directed at you.
This post (obviously) generates a lot of heat - and I posted it a year ago.
Time to close the door on this one.
