I've been emotional all day. My dad, the shooting, moving apartments in 2 weeks, change, change, change.
Then along comes this. President Bush handed out the Presidential Medals of Freedom today to the following people:
Julia Child, Dave Thomas, Van Cliburn, Jacques Barzun, Charlton Heston, Vaclav Havel, Edward Teller, James Q. Wilson, Byron White, John Wooden and Roberto Clemente.
Powerline has posted a photo of President Bush helping up the clearly ill Charlton Heston to come accept his award. And that is what has made me dissolve in tears.
Not to mention Bush's speech at the ceremony, which is beautiful. You should read it. It's the kind of speech that makes you feel proud.
It's ... I'm just a blubbery mess today.
Sorry.
I'm praying for the Davis family tonight. Everyone who loved him. My heart goes out to them. This is a terrible moment.
I'm meeting up with an old and dear college friend for a couple of beers tonight ... which will be good for me. Sit down on the Hudson River, with my old friend David, drinking beer, talking about our lives. A summer night. Try to let the craziness of this day go.
Thanks for all the emails of support today, y'all.
And today, I discovered Bill McCabe. I feel like that was the little gift of the day.
Breathe, my dear, Breathe...
then eat, socialize, and sleep...
tomorrow will bring it's own set of surprises
