I have been remiss in not linking to these great posts earlier.
Steve Silver has been on fire lately ... There's almost too much to discuss. But in terms of re-capping the last year, here are his posts - Read them all. They're great.
The 30 Most Shameful Events of 2003
The 2003 Stephen Silver Achievement Awards
Much for you to peruse in all of those ... and if this embarrassment of riches were not embarrassing enough - check out Tim Blair's Best Quotes of 2003. He even breaks it out month by month. Bravo.
And I love it that Emily Jones made the list with this gem of a quote: "As this is written, a Dixie Chick sits in a dark cell, living on peckings, uncertain of her fate, while Janeane Garofalo hasn't been given the opportunity to co-star in a shit film since literally the start of the so-called 'war on terror.'" Emily certainly does have a way with words.
Posted by sheilaThank you, Ms. O'Malley. I'm terribly flattered and humbled by the fact that both you and Mr. Blair found we worthy.
Posted by: Emily at December 30, 2003 11:03 AMYou really outdid yourself with that one, Emily. I nearly fell out of my chair when I first read that.

Emily, I seem to recall a post of yours where you took Germaine Greer SERIOUSLY to task. It was, as I recall, laugh-out-loud funny and absolutely VICIOUS (in the best way). Am I remembering correctly? Did you write something like that?
Posted by: red at December 30, 2003 03:55 PMI've bitten Germaine Greer in the ass a bunch of times. She's an easy target.
Posted by: Emily at December 30, 2003 04:35 PMhilarious.
when the movie My Brilliant Career came out, starring Judy Davis, Germaine Greer fell in love with the movie. In that shrill way that feminists fall in love, when they AGREE with something. Judy Davis, who became a star because of her role in this film, was a little overwhelmed by all the attention, and especially overwhelmed by the attention of Germaine Greer.
Greer showed up at an opening of the film and pounced on Judy Davis, dragging her around to meet all her friends - wanting to OWN Judy Davis and OWN her performance.
Judy Davis gave an interview years later and described it in this way: "That whole night I felt like: Get this shrieking feminist off of my neck."
Posted by: red at December 30, 2003 04:38 PMIt doesn't surprise me at all to learn that she's insane as well as stupid.
