I'm in dire straits...

I have no heat in my apartment. My radiators are cold as stone. I am wearing a winter coat, a scarf, gloves, and a hat. I slept in my knitted Irish hat last night. I stayed under my down comforter reading, until 12:30 pm today. This is unheard-of behavior. But I could see my breath in my stupid apartment.

I just now cooked for the week - (I cook in bulk.) And I kept the oven door open, and sat beside it, toasting my feet.

What is this - the 17th century?

My next-door neighbor said the same was true for him - only he admitted that he is "warm-blooded" and it doesn't bother him. His girlfriend, standing in the doorway with a scarf wrapped around her head, piped in, "It bothers ME."

Something must be done.

If you're really in dire straits, I could drop off a space heater.

You could always try to gert hold of one of those heated jackets like that gal they pulled off the airplane in France.

$4.73, remember...

Jim, excellent point. It's all making sense now.

I hope you haven't frozen by now. You're probably running around the house is multiple layers of whatever woll or flannel you can find in your duck boots or sitting in front of your open oven trying to keep warm so I am going to pose a question:

Would you burn your books if it meant saving your life?

I hope you are well and warmed up by the time you read this.

oh yeah - Good Night!

Being cold when you're trying to sleep is a miserable experience - hope you get warmed up soon.

And to think I sometimes actually complain about living in Florida... :-p

Hi Sheila,
I just wanted to let you know that it's about 75 degrees outside here. I'm wearing a t-shirt.

>:)

emily -

I mean this with love. Fuck off. (You, me and Bill are always telling each other to fuck off.)

I have a bottle of wine on the windowsill in my kitchen. Wanted to have a sip last night - to ease my freezing blood. There were chunks of ice in my damn wine.

Posted by: red at January 11, 2004 6:05 PM

Sheila - remember I hold Emily responsible for all this elf nonsense.

Posted by: Jim at January 11, 2004 6:13 PM

With pleasure, me deary. I find "fucking off" easier when it's warm outside anyway.

Posted by: Emily at January 11, 2004 6:26 PM

I'll add to the chorus: Fuck off, Emily. At least the ground is guaranteed to stay solid under our feet.

Posted by: Bill McCabe at January 11, 2004 10:54 PM

I'm gonna go suck on my wine-flavored popsicle now.

Reminds me of that old Woody Allen routine in which he described the technique for warming a freezing cold 'Noo Yawk' flat was to run the hot shower. Trouble was that when the warm, wet air hit the cold front in the sitting room, it rained!

Ice in the wine? Okay's that's too cold.

Afraid of earthquakes, Bill? I always suspected you were a wuss.

Posted by: Emily at January 12, 2004 11:05 AM

Am I going to have to publicly de-link you again, Emily? I simply prefer to face the cold, blizzards, hurricanes and crazy terrorist threats to the possibility of earthquakes.

Posted by: Bill McCabe at January 12, 2004 4:04 PM

to be warm-blooded means you can't survive the cold. if you are "cold blooded" it means you can survive colder weather than normal. like a polar bear is a cold-blooded animal.

betsy's friend.

Susanna! Hello!

So basically what your note is saying is that my next-door neighbor is a bit confused as to what kind of blood he has.

I myself am definitely warm-blooded.
