KHmer Temples: Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Posted by: Val Prieto at April 13, 2004 10:31 AMThat is the fastest trivia game I have ever initiated.
WELL done, my Cuban friend.
Posted by: red at April 13, 2004 10:32 AMI'd love to go see them. A friend of mine backpacked through Cambodia and said you literally cannot comprehend the size of the thing. It is beyond the human brain's capacity - and photographs cannot capture it.
Posted by: red at April 13, 2004 10:33 AMI did a report on them in high school believe it or not. I cant believe I remembered that.
Sheesh, Im just chock full of trivial information like that.
Posted by: Val Prieto at April 13, 2004 10:39 AMDear Sheila:
I read the question, and thought, "Ooh! Ooh! I know the answer!" - Val had beaten me to it. Good work. Restores my faith in the fact that there are a few who actually know geography and history.
I remember the National Geographic's "Geography Bee" in the mid-late-'80's -- the one where over half of high-school students couldn't find the Soviet Union on a map (hint: It covered eleven time zones - you could find it at ten feet with a blindfold and a dart!) -- and thought that the Persian Gulf was either in Asia, South America, or Europe.
Again; good to see that the trend is changing -- at least among those who care!
Cheers!

Posted by: Will at April 13, 2004 10:56 AMmissed them on my last trip to thailand. cambodia is next on my SE asia itinerary.
Posted by: the mighty jimbo at April 13, 2004 2:56 PMHmmmm...sorry, but I have to add SE Asia to my gradually building "to-don't" list. Nothing against the place, but I just could survive without ever going there.
Posted by: Dave J at April 13, 2004 6:36 PMMere multiple structures, my lad...
The Hagia Sophia would be my guess.
Posted by: Joe at April 15, 2004 8:15 AMJoe - no the answer is Angkor Wat. The largest temple in the complex (I think its name is Angkor Thom) is the largest single religious building in the world.
That's why I said it was the quickest trivia game I ever initiated, because Val answered the question literally 3 minutes after i posted it. :)
