certain words ALWAYS go together.
"Fiery"
"one-eyed"
"hook-handed"
"radical"
"Muslim cleric".
Always. No exceptions. Word to the wise.
Speaking of "fiery one-eyed hook-handed radical Muslim clerics" - Tim Blair wrote up a personal ad for hook-handed Abu Hamza.
The first item reads thus:
I am a: One-eyed hook-handed hate preacher
Still laughing over here.

Posted by: red at May 27, 2004 1:01 PMOops, you left out the part about "filthy, murdering shitstain.
Posted by: Ken Summers at May 27, 2004 6:51 PMKen - of course that's the subtext - but I'm talking about the cliches and descriptive terms the media always uses. They do not say "shitstain".
But they ALWAYS say 'fiery'.
It's like they don't even question what the word means. "Oh ... everyone's calling him 'fiery'? I guess that's the word now ... I'll call him 'fiery' too!"
Posted by: red at May 28, 2004 10:14 AMI really hate to own up to what I think of every time I hear the word "fiery", but I will:
"A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty..."
Let's see if any geezers in the crowd can fill in the elipsis.
Posted by: Ken Summers at May 28, 2004 10:21 AMOr are willing to admit that they can
Posted by: Ken Summers at May 28, 2004 10:21 AMHa! Just read Alex Robson's comment at Blair's place:
Altogether now:
He was a one-eyed, hook-handed, alleged evil hate preacher,
(one-eyed, hook-handed alleged evil hate preacher)
A one-eyed hook-handed alleged evil hate preacher
Sure looked strange to me.

I have no idea. Er ... the theme song to the Lone Ranger? I know that's not right.
Posted by: red at May 28, 2004 10:47 AMI know it's not right, because now I can HEAR that damn theme song booming in my ears.
Posted by: red at May 28, 2004 10:47 AMAlmost right! Not the theme (William Tell Overture) but the voiceover introducing the show
"and a hearty 'hi-yo Silver'".
'Sokay, Red, you're still a young'un :)
