My only complaint is that Kaya doesn't post enough.
Read this RANT about the inanities uttered by sports commentators (and try not to guffaw out loud as you do so) - and you will see what I mean.
UPDATE:
Er - to those of you who say "Turn the sound down" - my response would be:
Yeah, but then Kaya wouldn't have written such a supremely funny essay.
Sometimes annoyances are AWESOME, because it generates some comedy. Not everything needs a solution - as long as someone can write about it, and turn it into something humorous.
Posted by sheilaListen with the sound off-or the TV on and the radio feed is often better-the chatter on the radio is much less and the announcing to the point and crisper-don't know if it's available for the NBA finals though
Posted by: mike at June 7, 2004 04:02 PMI like your first idea, mike:
"Listen with the sound off."
Actually, none of this constant stream of idiotic chatter phases me anymore. It's just noise "taken to the next level."
Posted by: spd rdr at June 7, 2004 06:19 PMThe NBA these days is completely lame with or without the sound.
The NHL, which is apparently on the verge of extinction, is another story. I'm no hockey fan - I'm from the ice-free latitudes - but right now I'm watching the Stanley Cup final.
In the second period intermission, the commentator interviews Ruslan Fedotenko, saying "you took 6 stitches in the eyebrow in the first period, and just scored your second goal of the game in the second, how do you feel?" Fedotenko said he felt great.
The NBA just doesn't seem that real.
Posted by: CW at June 7, 2004 10:08 PMI think listening to the inanities of the sports commentators and talking back to the TV is part of the fun. My wife talks back to Y&R. Why can't I talk back to the Saints game?
Stupid Commentator: "This tight end is quick and has great hands"
Me: "He might be quick but he's been on the bench all year because he can't catch"
