Obsession Central: Bogart

The picture kind of says it all, doesn't it?

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I understand by today's standards that people think Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, and Charlize Theron are beautiful....and they are, don't get me wrong. But just take a gander at Bacall and Monroe. I'm sorry, but they make those women look like Larry, Moe, and Curly..

And when the screen discovered Bogie, it was the beginning of the end of an era. Plain and simple.

Alex:

I just love how Marilyn is leaning in, and yet look where Bogart is looking. And wouldn't you, too, if someone were gazing at you the way Bacall is gazing at him?

There's another funny picture from the same night - of the 3 of them - and Bogart is very very very surreptitiously glancing down Monroe's cleavage.

I think this was at the opening of How to Marry a Millionaire.

I want to look at a man someday the way Bacall is looking at Bogie. :)

I used to look at Miles that way.

JOKE!!!

Sheila -- have you ever thumbed through Vanity Fair's coffee table book on Hollywood? If you haven't, DO IT. Hundreds of pages of pictures as classic as that one, spanning decades.

and yuh know, you see a picture like that, and then you see one of today's 'stars' dressed in baggy rags and a backwards baseball cap...

Hey now, no dissing Halle Berry. She's foxtacular in just about every measurable metric.

That said, if I had to caption that photo, it would be along the lines of: Luckiest SOB Alive. (at the time)

Foxtacular. I like that. I'm going to steal it, if you don't mind.
