Dan , Emily , Jess (and everyone else, of course...) - I came across this post on Book Slut, and immediately thought of one of our old discussions here.
The article in question is not live yet, but apparently it's going to cover Flowers in the Attic, by VC Andrews, and how that book 'introduced sexuality to a generation of youngsters'.
Unfortunately, I count myself among that generation. Sexuality was introduced to me through a sick story of incest, emaciated ballerinas, arsenic-laced sugar doughnuts, inappropriate attic lust, and years of Dickensian imprisonment.
And I loved every second of it.
Heh. I'm looking forward to that one.
Posted by: Dan at August 12, 2004 4:32 PMWe interupt this blog to report breaking news: Gov. McGrevey of NJ has announced his resignation as of Nov. 15. Reason: He's gay.
Posted by: michael at August 12, 2004 4:42 PMI think the harassment lawsuit is more of a motivating factor, Michael. Without it, he probably would have stayed in the closet.
Posted by: Bill McCabe at August 12, 2004 4:47 PMMaybe, but a gay affair is the reason he gave in his press conference, as reported by wnbc and NYT.
Posted by: michael at August 12, 2004 4:52 PMDan:
Perhaps, too, we can learn a bit more about how to crank out salacious books after one is dead. For that is the key.
Posted by: red at August 12, 2004 4:52 PMExactly, Bill: gay or straight, an affair + a harassment suit and he was bound to resign at some point rather than be hounded out of office (with all the fallout that could have for the Presidential contest in surprise battleground NJ). And, of course, putting off the effective date of his resignation so that there's no special election gives the lie to the holier-than-thou persecuted martyrdom he was trying to convey. He's a sleazebag, and this doesn't change that at all.
Posted by: Dave J at August 12, 2004 4:57 PMred: indeed. I, for one, would happily go to my rest in the Great Beyond if I knew I could spend eternity penning risque books to corrupt adolescents.
Posted by: Dan at August 12, 2004 5:08 PMhahaha I know, really!!
Posted by: red at August 12, 2004 5:10 PMI cannot wait for this. And I'm still giggling over "inappropriate attic lust."
Posted by: jess at August 12, 2004 5:28 PMYeah, like there's ever a thing as appropriate attic lust!! Especially with your brother.
Eu.

Posted by: Stephen Silver at August 12, 2004 5:54 PMBegging the author's pardon, but I was introduced to sexuality by a bad kisser called Aaron behind my father's wood pile in Salem, New Hampshire and a book called What is Happening To Me.
Flowers in the Attic came a couple of years later. These are referred to as the "Discovery Years," during which I discovered that man, people can be really gross. Dude, super-ewww. Your brother?!?!?!? For generations!!!
Posted by: Emily at August 12, 2004 10:08 PMWhat is Happening to Me ... heh heh heh. Also - you actually kissed someone behind a wood pile?? It's like a lost episode of Little House on the Prairie or something! Cool! Except for the bad-kissing part of the scenario.
