Speaking of celebs I once loved -

who now have "worn out their welcome" - check out this weirdness. But my main question is: what the hell is with the band-aids on all his fingers? The first thing I thought was - that he is systematically obliterating his own finger-prints.

"Weirdness" doesn't even begin do him justice. There has to be a stronger word, that also connotes icky revulsion.

Icky is good.

Ah, nothing can take "Off the Wall" away from him ... but I try not to think about Michael Jackson too much anymore.

Only now I'm obsessing about those band-aids.

It may be the most embarrassing thing I've ever done in my life, but in grad school I once wrote an essay titled "The Political Importance of Michael Jackson." My friends remind me of it, often.

But what's really sad is that I was playing "Off the Wall" for my 9-year old son recently, and he picked up the album cover and said "that's not Michael Jackson!" Well, it was, once.

Oh my God, Jeff. You have GOT to tell me: what exactly IS the political importance of Michael Jackson?

Posted by: red at August 19, 2004 4:43 PM

Oh boy, I knew I would regret bringing that up. You'll have to forgive me. All copies have been destroyed so I'm going on memory a bit here, but I think the theory was that he was going to use his vast popularity to energize an entire generation of young Americans ("the Pepsi generation," I suppose) to a new level of political awareness...God, it hurts just to think about it.

maybe the band-aid bit is a scaled down glove?

He is making himself invisible. Think about it. His nose is smaller, his skin is getting lighter and lighter, his voice is so high it's almost a whisper. The only time he exists, is when he's on stage.

He's the most terriffying celeb of our time.

I think he's got some swami who's teaching him some home therapy - every time he has an urge to touch a child inappropriately, he has to go touch a hot stove.

Jeepers! Neither he nor the other two look human.

He's beyond terrifffying.

as a black women i worked with in 1986 said, "michael jackson has gone from being a handsome black man to an ugly white woman"

Alex - heh heh heh

I agree. Terrifying man.

I watched that controversial documentary about him - could not look away. Even though it was disgusting and disturbing.

I mean - I LOVED Michael Jackson. Very weird.

I think the word Dave J is looking for is "skeevy" or "skeeves me out"

as in "Michael Jackson is one skeevy man" or "Michael Jackson skeeves me out."

In my circle at least, "skeevy" denotes creepy and weird, usually with kind of a sexual overtone.
