Floridians...

Touch base when you have a moment (or when your power comes back on). Would love to hear from all of you.

All is pretty well in Sarasoat, on the SW Coast. Frances is passing to the NE of here and all we're getting is some rain and strong winds as various storm bands pass through.

Power is flickering just enough to call for a reboot every hour or so.

Jacksonville has had rain and heavy winds all day long. Trees down, boats crushed. Roofs blown off at the beach. Happily, no injuries as of about an hour ago. 11:00 PM. Thanks for asking.

Frances's center of rotation is due south of here in St. Mark's on the Gulf coast; it made landfall about an hour ago. The wind's really kicking up now and the rain's coming down fairly hand, but so far no more than in a typical thunderstorm (though there's no thunder); it's supposed to get much heavier. The power went out for about an hour around 4 in the morning, but other than that hasn't gone out for more than a couple of seconds. No water in my apartment...yet. :-S

Ugh, what a way to spend a Labor Day weekend.

I still can't get my mind around how enormous this storm really was. In Orlando, where I live, the first rain squalls came in on Saturday morning...and the last ones, Monday afternoon. We got lots of wind and rain, but not nearly the force we were expecting, for which I am fervently grateful.
