Clue:

I am unable to think about this line in the context of the last scene of this book wihtout feeling a lump rise in my throat.

A first-person novel ... powerful, angry, devastating - really of its time ... The narrator of the book has a secret, and you don't know the secret until halfway into it.

Great book.
