Some day it may seem worth while to take up the story of the younger ones again and see what sort of men and women they turned out to be; therefore it will be wisest not to reveal any of that part of their lives at present.

Clue:

One of the great classics of American literature, written by one of our most famous authors. I would say that he and Walt Whitman really put American on the map, in terms of literature. That's up for debate, but you get the picture.
