by Michele. She takes on the "My Morals Should Be Your Morals set" - those who think metal is too violent, music for misfits, if your children listen to it they will turn into the Columbine killers in about 2 days ... etc.
Uhm ... I love rap. I love metal. I love hard rock. I am also a pretty good citizen, and I generally obey the law, and wish my fellow humans well. I just like loud music. Listening to it is very cathartic for me.
Also, just a small point: even if metal is "music for misfits" - then what the hell is wrong with that??? Misfits need music too. And not every "misfit" turns into some wacko who will shoot a guitarist in the head in the middle of a show. Sorry, folks. Nope. See my brother's essay below - it speaks to this in an indirect way.
Anyway, don't miss Michele's post.

said in an angry German accent, pretending to paint something: "I can't get the damn trees right ... I must KILL EVERYONE IN THE WORLD NOW!"
Posted by: red at December 10, 2004 10:07 AMOn a related note--I just found out this evening that my wife's best friend works with the mother of the security/bouncer who was killed. He was 29, and had been in the service. His mother, who is scheduled to retire April 1st, is understandably devastated. I cannot imagine dealing with such a senseless death involving someone so close to you. In all honesty, I hadn't paid that much attention to this story, even though I live in Columbus. Then, as we were preparing to go to a party, I heard my wife's friend say something about her office being turned upside down. Sometimes these things hit close to home, and its impossible to ignore.

Horrible. Just horrible. The guy was just doing his job. So was Darrell Abbot - in the middle of doing a damn show - and then this happens. The police officer who was nearby and burst onto the scene, killing the maniac, probably prevented many more deaths, since this kid was on a rampage.
I'm so sorry for the family of the bouncer. So sorry.
