You're braver than I am. I get queasy just looking at that.
Posted by: Bryan at March 11, 2005 05:11 PMErmmm.. after you.
Posted by: peteb at March 11, 2005 05:24 PMYou're braver than me, red. They named the thing "Insanity" - I think I'm inclined to take them at their word...
Posted by: MikeR at March 11, 2005 05:36 PMI am with the other gentlemen--Not on a dare. I can achieve "insanity" without shortening my life. Besides, you can tell me all about over drinks at the blackjack table that night.
Posted by: DBW at March 11, 2005 05:44 PMThe rollercoaster itself was enough for me. It barely qualifies as a kiddie coaster on the ground. But on top of the Stratosphere? Disturbing. You get the sensation of being flung out over the edge, to die a horrible, screaming, 900 foot impact victim death, and then whipped back to theoretical safety. Fun.
To actually be flung out over the edge. Ughh. The ground below will be raining $7.99 prime rib.
Posted by: Scotter at March 11, 2005 06:01 PMThat just seems like a less pleasant way to achieve the same effect as a bottle of Glenlivet.
Posted by: Scott Janssens at March 11, 2005 07:07 PMThat looks awesome - I want one!
Posted by: Linus at March 11, 2005 07:21 PMhell no!
Posted by: mere at March 11, 2005 07:47 PMI threw up just looking at it.
Posted by: Bill McCabe at March 11, 2005 07:48 PMI'll go on the ride! I'm crazy like that.
Posted by: Ann Marie at March 11, 2005 11:10 PMI nearly spewed wine reading Bill McCabe's response.
... still laughing.
Posted by: syd at March 12, 2005 12:15 AMMaybe after I play tennis in Dubai.
Posted by: dorkafork at March 12, 2005 12:33 AMYou know what? This reminds me:
In that whole "if money were no object" game - at the risk of sounding like Michael Jackson - I will say this: I MUST have my own amusement park at my disposal at all times- and it will ONLY be made up of roller coasters.
I would like to have an old creaky wooden roller coaster like the one at Coney Island- but then I also must have all the latest ones. The Batman one is one of the most exhilarating rides I have ever been on in my life. It was sexual. I felt like crying when it was over (I was 28 years old ... so please realize how nuts all of this is) and at the time the line was 3 hours long, and I considered getting right back in line again.
So yes. I would like to have a labyrinth of roller coasters in my backyard.
Posted by: red at March 12, 2005 10:16 AMOoo, ye gods! I'm with Bill; I think I peed myself when that picture came up.
You can have your roller coasters, red. Just put me in a Tilt-a-Whirl and I'll be fine.
Posted by: Lisa at March 12, 2005 10:27 AMI'm speculating on just how much money someone would have to pay me to do that.
Posted by: Dave J at March 12, 2005 12:54 PMhahahaha
dorkafork:
That is one of the funniest randomest most wonderful links. WOW - look at that!
"What are you doing this weekend?"
"Oh, nothin' much. Just some tennis in Dubai. You know, the usual."
Posted by: red at March 12, 2005 12:56 PMAs, I believe, every news station report mentioned regarding the tennis in Dubai story.. "I wouldn't want to be a ball-boy for that match."
Posted by: peteb at March 12, 2005 01:22 PMAh, the Stratosphere ride. My friend Adam went on that while we were in Vegas. It is as terrifying as you might think. I believed he described it as 'being tossed off of a really tall skyscraper, and caught in a wind that keeps whirling you in circles just out of safety's reach'
I didn't go on that thing. I rode this clerk in the trendy fashion boutique instead. Her name was Gabrielle. It was exciting, just....in a different way.
Gads, I miss Vegas.
Posted by: Wutzizname at March 12, 2005 06:29 PMNo wait...that's not it. That ride's new. he went in the other one.
There's a chair drop ride that's on the very very top of that building. It goes straight up, and basically, bounces up and down on top of the spire an additional 4 or 5 stories, guaranteeing that people scream wretch, pee all over the roof of the building.
Similar effect...thrown off of skyscraper, kept out of safety's reach, but no dangling.
You can HAVE that shit. I'm not riding that.
Posted by: wutzizname at March 12, 2005 06:35 PMI like roller coasters and thrill rides for the most part, but I hate heights. I have a great fear of splat.
Posted by: Laura at March 13, 2005 09:47 PMOh hell yes.
