North Dakota: "baseball country"

pfft. i have been to north dakota, ok? i have grandparents--two of them! that live in north dakota.

IT IS *NOT* BASEBALL COUNTRY. it is "haaackey" and curling country.

Boston is once and for all baseball country. the end.

*I* grew up in NoDak. Outside of Grand Forks and Fargo, 'awkey is the poor stepchild. In the winter, it's hoops. Spring, track 'n field. Summer? Roundball.

My story is mostly from when my dad was a kid; back then, an amateur or semipro team was as much a part of a town's identity as its high school. Not quite so much today, although it's still a big deal.

But curling *is* huge in the northern half of the state - Beth's right there. Although I grew up in the southeast central part of the state, and NOBODY curled there. Curling starts north of ND200...
