1. Getting a pedicure creates mental stability. This is not an opinion. It’s a fact. Having pretty painted perfect toes and smooth gorgeous feet has a direct relationship to inner peace. A to B, people, A to B.

2. I am getting all my hair cut off this week. For an example of what it will look like – see this, Exhibit A – my #1 favorite photograph of the gorgeous Sharon Stone:

That’s what I will get. Liberation! I also am going to have to take some drastic measures because at the rate I am going, I will need to change my blog moniker from “red” to “grey” by next year.

3. And lastly: I normally don’t pay attention to commercials. I am sure they have SOME effect on me, but if they do – it is totally subliminal. I don’t buy Tide because some commercial told me to (at least not consciously) … I have been using Tide since I first started doing my own laundry. I’m loyal. What can I say. However, this past week, I was completely influenced by a commercial – so much so that I WROTE DOWN THE NAME OF THE PRODUCT on a piece of paper, so I would remember it. It was for Oil of Olay’s new age-defying night creme, called “Regenerist”. I have no idea why this commercial was so hypnotic and compelling, but it was. Perhaps it was the words “time-release”. Or maybe the woman in the commercial was pretty. No idea. But I thought: “I MUST try this new product.” (I am obsessed with skin care, by the way.) My medicine cabinet is clogged with skin care products that I use religiously. I compartmentalize my own body. I have: eye cream, foot cream, body lotion, special lotion for elbows and knees, face cream (night and day), major heavy-duty cream for the winter when my skin becomes as dry as a Galopogas Island lizard. I have hand cream. I have facial kits. I have toner, I have special lathering cloths which remove makeup. I am insane. So … naturally, I saw that commercial and realized that I need to add to my collection. Today I bought: the Oil of Olay regenerist night cream, and also the Oil of Olay regenerist under-eye cream. I am THRILLED to try it out tonight. The power of advertising, huh?

I’ve never had a pedicure because I have really sensitive feet. I swear they will start tickling if someone so much as even *looks* at them. But I do my nails and feet myself, and you are right. Total inner peace starts with pretty feet. My thetans get very angry when my toe nail polish is not perfect and throw my entire life focus out of whack.

  2. Wutzizname says:

I hope you’ll take a picture of his it looks now before you cut it all off. I’ll have you know I’ve only seen you with short hair. I have no other image of you in my head.

    Nice pic, by the way.

  3. red says:

wutzizname: I have you to thank for tracking down that picture for me!!

  4. red says:

Emily – I’m really ticklish too and the absolute worst part is when they take this rough pumice stone and scrape along the bottom of the foot. That’s when I have to hold myself back from kicking the manicurist wildly in the face.

  5. Laura says:

I keep wanting to hack my hair off, it goes so freaking fast I had it last cut around New Years, to about neck length, now it’s close to the middle of my back and it’s super thick and driving me insane with this heat. I also have this desire to some day literally shave it all off, just for the hell of it. Someday, I probably will.

  6. mere says:

i just put major blond highlights in my hair and cut my bangs short.

    Laura:

I shaved my head once. A la GI Jane. Not completely bald … but like Sinead. Oh. My. God. It was SO AWESOME. I highly recommend it. My acting teacher thought I was nuts. He said, “So … you’re only interested in … Irish terrorist roles now? Or …” But then halfway through class, he said, “You know, Sheila, I have to admit, you look rather fetching.”

    hahahahaha

  8. red says:

Mere – really?? Can’t wait to see it!

  9. Just1Beth says:

I also have new color in my hair-more blondey highlights, whereas I usually go reddish. I have a new ‘do, too. More flattish. I am doing this because there is no way I can lose 50 lbs. by the shindig Friday.

  10. Just1Beth says:

PS I also decided to get a pedicure this week- yee ha! My new favorite is French Pedicures= they last forEVER!!!

  11. red says:

Beth – are you home now? Can I call you? We must discuss our clothes.

  12. Chai-rista says:

    Hey Red:

Regenerist is everything they promise. Use it for a week and you’ll never go back. I’m thinking of starting to use the night creme also. I saw a friend who I had not seen since 1998 a few weeks ago and she was all, “You look GREAT! You look so YOUNG! Wow!” and (not to sound too much like a commercial) I was thinking of my little bottle-shaped pal. She was right too. She is probably 38 or so with kids – I’m 44 with none. My skin looked at least as good as hers! It was so cool.

  13. red says:

    Chai-rista – whoo-hoo!! A personal anecdote!! I can’t WAIT.

  14. Dave J says:

That picture, as it always has before, has me at a loss for words (which you know is rare). ;-) I just adore Sharon Stone, and thanks to you, that has to be my favorite picture of her, too. Yes, she’s gorgeous, but she also exudes “sexy” in a way that has little or nothing to do with ordinary physical attractiveness.

  15. Jen says:

    Sheila-
Regenerist is freaking awesome. I’m only 26, but I’m worried already about wrinkles, so I tried this stuff out. It smells soooo good and makes your skin feel great. It’s especially good to use before you put on any makeup, it goes on more smoothly. Good luck!

  16. red says:

Dave J – I think, for me, it’s the mixture of the sexy white dress, the cross around her neck, and the BASEBALL GLOVE … It’s just too much for any one person to bear.

Hot. She looks so comfortable with herself.

  17. red says:

Jen – damn!! So it’s really as good as it seems? I have to say: genius marketing campaign. It worked on me, and that’s saying a lot.

  18. Laura says:

Shit, I’m gonna have to get some of that.

  19. Shannon says:

I’m a product monger, too. So Regenerist is that great? Does anyone think it’s safe to use on oily skin? Because — get this — I live in the driest climate in the U.S. and I still get oily. Ick ick ick.

  20. Mark says:

I think, for me, it’s the mixture of the sexy white dress, the cross around her neck, and the BASEBALL GLOVE

Oh, is THAT what that is? For the life of me, I just couldn’t figure out what she was holding. The best I could come up with was either an armadillo or a designer purse.

  21. mere says:

ok- see now I have to get Regenerist. and cut my bangs just a little bit shorter…and wax my eyebrows. and put on some fake tan.

  22. mere says:

and by the way- the haircut will look fabulous on you.

  23. red says:

Shannon – I believe they have different versions of this product for different skin types.

  24. peteb says:

Is Sharon throwing the first ball at a game?

and, btw, she’s the latest addition to the dinner party list.

  25. red says:

Yup – she’s throwing out the first ball at some game last year.

  26. peteb says:

    Now that’s class.. and concentration.
