I truly believe ...

... along with Keanu Reeve's character in Parenthood that it is ridiculous that you have to take a test to get a driver's license - but they'll let any old bonehead be a parent.

Read about the stupidest woman on the face of the planet.

Yes, those are definitely candidates for mandatory sterilization! It never ceases to amaze me how truly stupid some people can be.

The dog never had to rotate to the trunk, you'll notice.

God.

Isn't it odd, too, in a twisted sort of way, that the 12-yr-old friend got seating priority over one of the sisters?

Yet another prime candidate for a stick-beating, imo.

...a nice, bamboo boken, in fact. Straight from Kendo class.

20 whacks, but naked in front of her neighbors by the local authority.

She'd never do it again.

Conception occurs way too easily for some people.

This lady didn't just lock her kids in the trunk, you know? She folded down the back seat so as to provide air, light and communication. Basically everyone was in the same compartment. The main danger was that the kids were unrestrained.

I rode unrestrained in motor vehicles all the time when I was a kid, and so did you. Child safety seats hadn't been invented. I slept in the club cab. I rode in the camper. Sometimes I'd step out on the tailgate (I remember riding the tailgate on I-40 through Albuquerque when I was about 13). People, including kids, used to ride in the backs of pickups. This was normal up until 1990 or so.

I say all this not to defend the woman, who I think exhibited poor judgment and messed-up priorities. But get it in historical and actuarial perspective. A young kid who lives in a house with a swimming pool is in more danger than a kid who rides unrestrained for a few hundred miles. And they're talking ten years in prison?

I'm sorry, there's just no excuse for this type of stupidity. None.

If the woman had packed her kids into the car this way in order to flee an approaching hurricane, she'd be commended for coolness under pressure and effective use of resources.

As it was, she did it to save a few bucks. There's no excuse. I'd hit her with a stiff fine, make her attend showings of horrible car-wreck movies, and educate her as to the meaning of the term "crumple zone".

But take her kids away? Call her the stupidest person in the world? Charge her with multiple felonies carrying serious jail time? I dunno.

Don't fluster Kate, she doesn't know it's dangerous.
