I love how he portrays himself as this macho investigative reporter. Meanwhile, when I worked with him, he LOVED spending time in the make-up chair and walked around the office singing Sheryl Crow. The first time I heard it, I looked at him incredulously like, "Really, dude? Sheryl Crow?"

Darryl Hammond does an AMAZING impression of him on Saturday Night Live. It's hilarious. Hammond captures the voice and the whole moron thing perfectly.

Darryl Hammond is a genius. His Al Gore was stupendous.

"I just need ... the American people to understand ... that I am the nicest person who has ever lived."

He also started crying on camera last night.

And - I honestly couldn't tell you if they were REAL tears (I'm sure many of the folks on-the-ground there are gonna have their lives changed forever, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of them quit the news-biz to do something they decide is more "meaningful) or if they were whipped up for effect.

But at any rate, I felt vaguely ill as I watched him, and said to myself "Okay, I am now officially done with watching the coverage."

He looks like he really needs to impress the viewers with how badly he feels for the people at the convention center. He yells and screams as though he is breaking up in front of the camera.

His act is matched (when I was watching) by O'Reilly back at the studio, who acts like a dispatcher: "You say you need water there, and you are where Geraldo, at the convetion Center? We're on it, and we're doing everything we can to make sure someone gets to you."

Some people are too big to just report the news.

Hey- another great thing that is happening- "Welcome House" (which is a homeless shelter in my town) clients have been standing out on the road today collecting for the victims of Katrina. "Homeless helping homeless...Welcome House of South County's Administration and Guests are mobilizing our South County Community by taking in donations to be sent to Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Homeless Programs. Our sister homeless shelters are GONE! We know what it is like for a homeless shelter to become homeless.(Ed. This shelter was shut down for a period of time due to fire code issues and just recently reopened.) Wow.Amazing that even those who are usually the ones BEING helped are now the helpers. Cool.
