Speaking of the tragedy of pedal pushers

This is a beautiful post.

First of all: that dress: YUM!!

But I adore the sentiment she is expressing here. I so hear what she is saying.

I also like her list of misguided outfits she once wore.

Example:

Gray miniskirt worn with seafoam green cotton camp shirt, seafoam green ankle socks, and gray jazz shoes. Matching gray hoop earrings. Okay, this was in 1983, but there is still a psychic scar from this level of coordination. It was like my clothes had a Stalin-era work plan.

I remember a time when I wore a turquoise t-shirt, matching turquoise socks, and, the coup de grace, matching turquoise eyeshadow. (The rest of the outfit? tan colored khakis or a long white canvas skirt and those little white canvas sneakers - not Keds but a Keds ripoff).

someone should have staged an intervention: I have reddish brown hair, fair pinkish skin, and hazel eyes; I should NEVER wear turquoise eye shadow.

The 80s: the era of "Stalin-era Work-Plan" matched clothes.

Ricki...on my 21st b-day..my dear friends LET me leave the house wearing very tight black jeans..clunky Herman Munster-like Doc Martens...a red turtle neck(gross..just to type "turtle-neck")...a bi-level bob of moppet like hair..with the front long bang section bleached blond(okay, okay..it was orange)...and an way oversized(think Stop Making Sense era David Byrne)"blazer" that can only be described as silver. What an asshole! It was 1987.

Haha. Why is this so funny to me?

I love that she remembers all the horrible details of 20 year old outfits.

I also love that you and Mitchell call yourselves assholes.

Whenever I see someone wearing something totally inappropriate I think, "She has no real friends." Surely they would tell her not to wear that if she had.
