All from the same blog.
Wow. (Love her. I first encountered her as the playwright in Cassavetes’ Opening Night – years and years after her heyday – so it’s been so fun to reacquaint myself with her work in the 30s. She was terrific.)
Wow. It’s just a movie still – but it’s art. I love that: when a movie can be Paused – and wherever you are in it – the paused image comes out as art. Now THAT’S a good movie.
Wow. Makes me nostalgic for a life I never lived.
The third one makes me think of they guy I eulogized here.
Sadly, the only think I can think of when Joan Blondell is Grease
Makes me nostalgic for a life I never lived.
When I feel that way, I remind myself that we’ll looking at the best of times only not the worst of times (Hey, that would make a good opening line for a book!). To live in a world of segregation (AND not just in the south), no cure for polio and most importantly, NO BLOGS… I couldn’t live in such a world.
Er that should have been:
… can think of when Joan Blondell is mentioned is…
and
…I remind myself that we’re looking…
I got to start drinking earlier in the day…
heh heh
Especially on a day this muggy. At least it is here. YUK
Joan Blondell is a babealicious gun moll in Public Enemy … She had one of those unbelievably long-lasting careers – and she’s a bit forgotten. It’s nice to see her get the props.
I got a CD of Busby Berkeley musicals. They had the one where Joan Blondell did the song about the forgotten man. Fabulous!! She is one of my favorites from the 1930’s especially.
