Awesome story

Go read.

A random act of human kindness. But also - like she says: if the guy had been a dick ... maybe she wouldn't have gone out of her way like that ... It's a real warm fuzzy of a story.

A hopeful tale on a kind of dark day.

That IS a nice story.

That said, I think there's also a moral (if I may):

It pays not to be a dick.

(or, if you don't mind split infinitives: It pays to not be a dick.)

(I know TOTALLY what the guy is talking about. I teach, and I've had students who were real sweethearts, and others who had serious metastases of their entitlement organ. When someone comes to me with news their computer melted down, and they really really need my help to print something out, or whatever, it's a whole lot easier to do it for the sweethearts.

Oh, I still do it for the people who have acted like dicks towards me, I just don't feel as happy about it.)

I'm starting to believe in Karma.

There's definitely a moral there, ricki!! I totally agree.

couldn't agree with you more ricki. I teach as well. I can't count the numerous times I have said to students something similar to your above statement. I say it in the following way:

"When you are far away from these hallways and classrooms of this school, people will not remember how many points you scored, A's you earned, touchdowns you ran for, etc. What they will remember is the way you treated them, what you said to and about them, and how you acted as a person. Believe me, those are the things are that I will rememeber about you."
