I have created a "category" for Dean Martin alone.
There's no going back now.
God help us all.
All Dino posts can be found here.
Oh, and thanks, as always, for the link, Tim!

I have a question for you: In the classic novel "The Godfather", Frank Sinatra is loosely portrayed through the character of Johnny Fontane, the guy on who's behalf the Don places the horses head in movie big wig's bed...a classic scene to be sure.
Khartoum...Khartoum. heh.
Anyway, there's another guy in the book from the old neighborhood: Nino Valenti. another classic character. Johnny brings him out to Hollywood to be his sidekick and its all fun from there.
my question is, do you think that the Nino Valenti character in The Godfather (the book not the movies)represents Dean-O??
i think it does.
thots?
Posted by: Mike D at September 18, 2006 5:09 PMI certainly remember that character in the book - but I didn't know too much about Dean Martin when I read it, so I don't know if it was based on him! Maybe another reader, another Dino fan, can chime in!!
Posted by: red at September 18, 2006 5:13 PMHey, if'n you gotta have an obsession, you could do a lot worse than Dino.
Posted by: James Versluys at September 18, 2006 6:01 PMCool beans, linky love from Tim Blair!
Posted by: Nightfly at September 18, 2006 6:12 PMIt's been a banner day. Mark Steyn linked to my Dino posts in his sidebar.

Posted by: red at September 18, 2006 6:47 PMI clicked over from Tim Blair. Anyone can tell you I always say my all time favorite singer (crooner) is Dean Martin. For me it's all about the music. Second and third are Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole.
I see your fascination with Dino has led you in many directions. I'm enjoying the fruits of your obsession. But still, it's the music...
Posted by: Tomi at September 18, 2006 7:30 PMOf course it's about the music, but when I get obsessed with something it also becomes about what breakfast cereal he liked. Just the nature of the beast, I guess. My obsessions are three-dimensional, shall we say.
Posted by: red at September 18, 2006 8:14 PMin honour of the Deanathon, i borrowed Airport from the library. i've never seen it before; i hope it's good.
Posted by: amelie / rae at September 18, 2006 8:32 PMSeven times we salaam before thee, Sheila! You're right above Steyn-o's TV tiff with the Great Lileks - and when such titans do battle, it's best to stand aside.
Posted by: Nightfly at September 18, 2006 9:14 PMHe linked to me once before - when I posted on some Tolkien letter I had found to a German publisher - it was pretty cool. Like ... Mark Steyn reads me? What?
Posted by: red at September 19, 2006 7:31 AMWhile you're still on your Dean bender you might want to try to get your hands on Dean and Me (A Love Story) by Jerry Lewis. It answers a lot of "why?" questions about their relationship and breakup.
