It's finally real.

It's happening. It's only the beginning of course ... but I do need to take a moment to just revel in the fact that the beginning ... is here.

Wow--it did take a while for the issue to be released. I think it's great you are being published. Here's hoping for many more. Mazel tov.

My acceptance letter was written on a manual typewriter, so that should give you some idea. :)

I'm thrilled.

And apparently there was an ad for this upcoming issue in the most recent Irish Literary Supplement (which is, like, GOD to me) - and there was my name. tee hee!!

Well, I am happy for you, and more than a little jealous.

Posted by: DBW at September 21, 2006 11:43 PM

that's incredible, but i can't think of anyone more deserving than you, sheila. your writing is phenomenal.

Posted by: just1beth at September 22, 2006 7:09 AM

Yeah, and I'm tagging along behind screaming, "She's my friend TOO!!!"

Way to go, Sheila!!!!!

Posted by: Kate at September 22, 2006 10:17 AM

Fantastic. Soooooo ... acceptance letter written on a manual typewriter. I'm guessing there won't be an online version.

Posted by: Cullen at September 22, 2006 11:27 AM

No online version. I mean, this magazine barely has a workable website. hahaha But it's really respectable - the oldest lit. journal in America. Published out of The Univ. of the South - so you should be able to find copies of it. Barnes & Noble sometimes carries The Sewanee Review.

Posted by: red at September 22, 2006 11:29 AM

Yay Sheila!!!!!!!!!!

Sheila, As a graduate of Johns Hopkins I know personally what an honor it is for you to be chosen as an artist in this publication. This is a BIG deal for you and I wish you all the best! God love the Irish and God love you.

Dearest: delighted to add my voice to the congratulatory messages. I just want to note a word about Sewanee Review: Johns Hopkins has been engaged to distribute future issues, which leads me to hope that it will soon be included in JH's Project Muse, which provides electronic distribution and access to the best of the literary and social science journals published today. There may well be electronic access to your essay. [Sewanee is already included online by the major full-text aggregator in most US libraries, although they impose a delay for the current issues]. I hope your essay will receive the wide distribution that it so well deserves. love, dad

OMG!!! I'm SO happy for you!!!!

Posted by: Chai-rista at September 22, 2006 12:50 PM

Dad - this is great news. I had heard of Project Muse - but I didn't put it together in my head that that meant Sewanee Review would be involved. Very cool!!

Posted by: red at September 22, 2006 1:07 PM

That's awesome, Sheila! Congratulations!

Posted by: Kathy at September 22, 2006 1:17 PM

Fantastic! Sorry to be late with kudos - busy busy lately - but this is great news and you've earned it in spades.

Instead of duking it out, I propose that David grabs one armpit, I grab the other, and we drag you around while bragging about you. Wadda ya think, David???
