Dear Steve, whoever you are:

THANK YOU for my gift today!! I got your note too - so funny - but there was no email to thank you privately so here goes:

Steve sent me:

1. The Ultimate Rat Pack Collection - CD and DVD I am listening to it now and I am in heaven!! Dino is singing "I left my heart in San Francisco" as we speak - his voice is like buttah - but I love how he has to ease into being serious. He doesn't want to be caught being, you know, sincere - so he starts off the first verse by singing, "I left my heart in Fran Sancisco ..." and you can hear the audience laugh ... and I just fall in love with him a little bit more. THANK YOU!

2. The Cary Grant signature Collection ... with Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House / Destination Tokyo / The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer / My Favorite Wife / Night and Day ... (that last one is, you know, the biopic of Cole Porter where it is laid out that Cole had troubles in his marriage because he was a workaholic. Uh huh. But still - why I love that movie is that Cary Grant gets to play the piano and sing - things he loved to do in his real life - so it's wonderful, it's all HIM.) I, of course, love all of those movies - and own NONE of them.

Total treat to receive the package from you today - so Steve, whoever you are, thank you so much!!

You're a little like Dean that way yourself. I mean, look at the title of this obviously heartfelt thank-you: "Dear Steve, whoever you are." It's cracking me up. But then, what can you do without an email address?

Never got around to saying how much I enjoyed the Dino obsession, but that was awesome. I have driven the man NUTS with endless replays of my (admittedly smallish) Dean Martin collection. And don't even start him on the time I unloaded a Dean Martin MOVIE marathon on him. The Matt Helm series--they're not actually very good but, you know, it's Dean, so I love them anyway.

I love those Matt Helm movies!

I just watched the DVD -of Frank, Sammy and Dean performing live from St. LOuis and I have so many thoughts about it ... I am CLOGGED UP WITH THOUGHTS about these three. I will let it percolate and then write about it.

Thank you Steve, whoever you are!!

I love that you need your thoughts to percolate. Seriously. Am cracking up.

Thanks Steve, whoever you are. :)

Do you think Steve is the boob guy trying to make up for upsetting you?

Posted by: Susan at October 4, 2006 7:57 AM

No - boob guy was from Brazil, and his name was not Steve. He did apologize to me, in an email. Nice!

As an adolescent, I was actually an avid reader of the Matt Helm series. The author was Donald somethingorother. I liked the movies too - I remember thinking they were pretty fluffy compared to the books, but Dean was so cool it didn't matter.

I don't think I've ever admitted any of that in public before. lol
