Vegas, Baby

This coming Saturday I will be in Vegas, and I will be taking a “monorail to Liza”.

That’s all I know.

1. Monorail
2. Liza

Monorail. Liza.

Monorail.
Liza.
Monorail.
Liza.

I kind of can’t get past it. I’m already excited for it to be OVER so I can write about it.

I don’t even grasp that concept. Like, WHAT is a “monorail to Liza”??

Clearly, I have not been to Vegas in a very long time.

  2. red says:

I don’t even know what any of it means. I haven’t been to Vegas since 1991.

But apparently there is a monorail – A MONORAIL – from our cheeseball motel – directly to the Liza concert.

Uhm … I am so excited? What??

  3. tracey says:

That is cool! But also weird.

  4. amelie / rae says:

for some reason, when we were taking an old superquiz yesterday, one of the answers blurted out was “Sir Liza Minnelli!” this is of course wrong, but all i can think of right now, seeing “Monorail. Liza.”

i’m slightly jealous of you, as i’ve never been west of minnesota, and never seen liza perform. i guess i’ll live vicariously through you, okay?

  5. red says:

Let’s hope she’s not a bloated tick, like the last time I saw her. Ahem.

I’ve actually seen pictures of her performing this last time round and she looks kind of fabulous.

I’m not sure WHEN I became a gay man … but seeing Liza in Vegas is certainly the final confirmation I need of my own transformation.

  6. Ann Marie says:

I personally love that you are looking forward to it being over so you can begin reliving it again. :-)

  7. beth says:

weird. I’m IN vegas right now. nice weather, anyway. i will not be taking the monorail anywhere, sadly.

    I’m not sure WHEN I became a gay man…

    If I had a nickle…

  9. Nightfly says:

Is this like the Newark Sky Train, where you can get off at a stop specifically to take the monorail to the airport? Only, instead of flying to Vegas, you’re already there so the monorail takes you to see Liza! So it’s exactly the same, only it’s the Vegas Liza Train.

“Monorail to Liza” sounds like a really bad indie altrock band.

I wonder if the old funk song “Love Train” could be reconfigured to “Liza Monorail”

    all around the Strip,
people join in (join in y’all)
    get on the Liz’ Mon’
    Liz’ Mon’

(Too bad…you have to abbreviate it sharply to make it scan.)

    Vegas? Incredible! :D

Last time I was there (the first time I was there) it was a Monorail that went from the Mandalay Bay, past the Luxor, Excalibur, and a few others.

Depending on where you’re staying, it’ll open up directly to the hotel, which might be the MGM Grand. That’s where they had Carlin back then.

Eegads, I miss Vegas. I need to go back. Enjoy yourself.

  12. Missy says:

Bloated tick! Oh yes, I was looking for that! Ha!

  13. Alex says:

    Liza.

    3 days.

    Monorail.

    Us.

    What?

  14. Shannon says:

The Monorail. I do ads for the Monorail. What do you want to know?

It goes nonstop, hotspot to hotspot.

You can go from The Sahara to MGM Grand in 15 minutes.

It stops at MGM, so to get to the Luxor (and Liza), you’ll go kitty-corner across Las Vegas Blvd. to Excalibur where you can catch another little monorail (it’s really a tram that goes between Excalibur and Mandalay Bay, stopping at Luxor in the middle).

Weather-wise, we’re looking at scattered t-storms on Saturday. Other than that, it’s going to be absolutely gorgeous here.

October’s the best month of all in Vegas. I hope you guys have an incredible time.

  15. red says:

Shannon – ha! No way!!! I love how you just show up with all this information – it’s hysterical and I love it!!!

I am not sure where Liza is playing – we’re driving to Las Vegas on Saturday – checking into whatever hotel it is we’re staying in (obviously I have had nothing to do with the planning of this venture) – and then we primp and preen in our hotel room for a bit, and then take the monorail to Liza.

    Seriously, I am so excited!

  16. Shannon says:

Sounds like you’re staying somewhere along that little tram line, or very close to it. Liza’s at Luxor — the big, goofy black pyramid between Excalibur and Mandalay Bay.

There will be unlimited people-watching activities. And, since you haven’t been here in a while, you’ll probably just be gobsmacked by how big and BRIGHT everything is here.

This town is absolutely out of its mind. You’re going to have a blast.
