A bit of Marilyn Monroe to start the day

RTG has photos of a beautiful little relic. I LOVE RTG's childlike writing on the back pages.

Second of all - last week, RTG sent me an URGENT email with URGENT new Marilyn Monroe information:

Heretofore unseen photographs of Monroe by Eve Arnold - who was totally brilliant, in terms of capturing Monroe. I love Arnold's stuff. If you click through the gallery of new photos - my favorite, I think, is Marilyn at the mirror. Her back is to the camera, and she's pulled her white dress up - it's bunched around her waist - and she's messing with her hair.

That's my favorite, too. In fact, I went to the gallery first (had to click the link IMMEDIATELY) and finished reading your post after and was not surprised to see we both liked that shot.

There's something so private about it - and so unlike other photos we've seen of her. The more candid a photo of Marilyn is, the more striking it is to me; partially because of her legendary vulnerability which seems embodied in candid shots and partially because she was normally so particular about her presentation.

Wow, I don't even need to say that this is one of my MOST favorite ways of starting a day: unseen pics of Marilyn?? What?? This is fantastic!

Speaking of Eve Arnold, there are quite a lot of pics taken by her in Magnum's website (www.magnumphotos.com), you might want to visit the place. You have to register, but it's free and the pics are beautiful. Among Eve's Marilyn photos you will find other candids taken on the same day as the one in front of the mirror that you liked, and also many Misfits pics. There are also many Misfits pics from other Magnum photographers.

As for RTG's post: just LOVE it. Her scribbling "I love Marilyn" in the book! I did that too, my high school journals are full of pictures and rapturous exclamations, hahaha! And seeing that book’s cover, which has a picture taken by Milton Greene, reminded me that there is a huge collection of photos by Greene in his website (http://www.miltons-marilyn-monroe.com): most have been restored, and though rather small, they are beautiful. I just discovered this place this last weekend, and still have not been through all images. Just breathtaking, a treasure trove for Marilyn-crazed people like myself!

I loved the "I Love Marilyn" on the back of the book. I just love that as a little girl, she loved her so much, she had to write it down.

The pictures are brilliant! I heard about this. I HAVE to see them.

These pictures are kicking up some pig havoc over here.

No, seriously... my favorite is the first one. I like how Marilyn is still beautiful, but in a causal way. Free, easy, and happy.
