6 days ...

dreamgirls_poster.jpg

... and counting..... (that Denby review has made me even more excited, if possible)

I freakin' CANNOT. WAIT.

Quote from the review:

The sigh you will hear across the country in the next few weeks is the sound of a gratified audience: a great movie musical has been made at last.

Holy crap.

Seriously. I'm having a problem concentrating on anything else, so great is my anticipation.

You know who I'm most excited to see? Eddie Murphy.

I've always had a soft spot for him since my college days, when my cassette of Comedian was passed around and copied and played until it LITERALLY fell apart. My friends and I STILL quote it and laugh hysterically, 20+ years later.

His reviews in this movie are stellar, and I'm happy for him.

Oh, and I hope Jennifer Hudson wins an Oscar, and tells Simon Cowell to fuck the hell off in her acceptance speech.

I'm psyched for Murphy too - terrific reviews!

Christmas night I'm goin'. This is the plan anyway.

I am absolutely looking forward to the film and going to go see it shortly after it comes out - but the funny thing to me is that I pulled up your blog and saw "6 days..." and thought - "Oh, Sheila's doing a countdown to Christmas."

Then I scrolled down and got a good laugh that everyone else is counting down to Christmas and you're counting down to Dreamgirls. ;)

Ha!

Yeah - screw Christmas - bring me Dreamgirls!!

I'm in for Christmas night - and I don't care how late Beth - we'll wait for you!

Posted by: Betsy at December 19, 2006 3:52 PM

Bets - would it be easier for you to see it at Showcase? Closer, I mean?

I'll see if I can figure out times, etc.

Posted by: red at December 19, 2006 4:15 PM

It doesn't matter - I'm right in the middle. Wakefield is just fine if it is there! Woo Hooo - can't wait!!!!

Have you heard the soundtrack? I saw it at Starbucks this morning.

Posted by: little D at December 19, 2006 4:44 PM

little D - you mean the movie soundtrack?

No - I've just heard a couple tracks of it.

But I know the original Broadway recording by heart.

Bets - when was the last time we went to a movie together?

Rocky IV??

Posted by: red at December 19, 2006 4:58 PM

I believe we drove to Bristol to find the only theatre still playing Rocky IV -

Posted by: Betsy at December 20, 2006 7:01 AM

And Bets - how coincidental - the latest Rocky has just opened. Maybe we could go to a double feature!

Posted by: red at December 20, 2006 7:57 PM

Ok- here is the latest. (I hope you two are still checking this comment!!) We are staying in RI on Christmas Day to eat dinner with my family. My mom is serving dinner at 4. So, can we do a movie sometime on the later end?? Will that work for you? I don't care where we do it.

Posted by: just1beth at December 20, 2006 10:03 PM

So - like - 9:30, 10???

Posted by: red at December 20, 2006 10:07 PM

that's perfect for me because we won't get to RI until about 4:00 - so the 9 or 10 show would be great!

Posted by: Betsy at December 21, 2006 9:29 AM

Assuming there is a 9 or 10 show ... ??? I bet there is.

I'll be home on Saturday so I'll check on movie times then.

I can't wait to go to the movies with you guys ... I'm ridiculously excited.

I love how we are making Christmas plans in the comments on my blog.

That is so messed up and beautiful.

I am headed up to Mass. in a little while, but just for the night. I will be back and call you in the morning, Sheila, to firm up plans. I know we can find a showing of the movie somewhere later on Christmas night, even if it is not down at Entertainment Cinemas. I tend to believe it WILL be showing there, though. WOO HOO!!!
