A strange confluence of thoughts and actions:
1. Thought: "Yay! I love Netflix! How did I survive without it???"
2. Next thought: "Tonight Triumph of the Will arrives. Hooray!" [Uhm - hooray?] Yes. Hooray!
3. Going to watch it this evening in a feng shui-ed environment with a Roman foot bath and a peaceful rock fountain and a sauna - a laser sauna - and tea and some kind of home-cooked meal from an island country.
As we watch Triumph of the Will.
I cannot speak in defense of this. It's just flat out what is going on right now.

I half expected you to end that sentence with "...and a llama tied up on the terrace."
Posted by: Emily at March 6, 2007 7:36 PMYes, I am flying to Morocco for the evening. Talk to you tomorrow!
Posted by: red at March 7, 2007 10:13 AMDoes it have subtitles?
Posted by: JFH at March 7, 2007 10:44 AMJFH - hahahahaha
Yes, it does. And sometimes you kinda wish you DIDN'T know what they were saying.
"A RACE MUST KEEP ITS BLOOD PURE" ... etc.
I'll write more about it later - I've only seen images from it, not the whole thing ... It is absolutely gorgeous, a great documentary - but also so creepy. You start to feel your mind go numb after a while ... with all the pageeantry. You start to lose sense that you are looking at individuals - they are all so neatly lined up and there are so goddamn many of them. Which, of course, is the point.
But to watch Hitler speak ... wow. It's creeeeepy, and very effective.
An ugly and yet gorgeous piece of work.
Posted by: red at March 7, 2007 10:49 AMAnd I watched it with my feet in a stone foot bath. As I ate a traditional meal of rice and beans and beets and other ... shit I have no idea what it all was. It was yummy. And I watched it after hanging out in the infrared sauna for a while, to warm up. I don't know why I find these incongrous details so amusing, but I do.
"Ahhh, let us relax, unwind, and watch a documentary of racial hatred!"

80's guy: Switzerland is small and neutral - we're more like Germany, ambitious and misunderstood.
Amy: Sure, everyone wants to be like Germany; but do we have the pure strength of will?
Sorry - maybe it's the feng shui, but this reminded me of one of my favorite Futurama bits.
