Being An Extra

I enjoyed EVERY WORD of this post. She was an extra on the Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore movie Music and Lyrics – and she’s basically in love with Hugh Grant, and her descriptions are absolutely hysterical. I love, too, how she’s sneaking photos the whole time.

Here are some of my favorite lines from the post – she’s a very funny writer (but seriously – go read the whole thing – it’s a delight):

— I was more than pleased to learn that the people operating the various rides (last inspected in what seemed like 1974) were not drug-addled carnies but, in fact, 14 year olds with no prospects.

— I had a brief but thrilling flirtation with an adorable camera guy.

— Seeing Hugh made me giddy. But I’m no asshole, I know how to behave. I wasn’t about to go up to these actors and tell them that I’m a “fan” because, really, it’s the douchiest, and my name ain’t Massengil Collins.

— And I swear to God, if my face ends up on the big screen, even for a brief moment, I will absolutely slit my throat in joy.

[I think that might be my favorite one. She will slit her throat IN JOY. I love her.]

Go read the whole thing. The captions to the photos are hysterical.

“I came thisclose to scouring it for hair follicles to auction off on Ebay.”

Hilarious! Especially considering that you just KNOW somebody out there is weird enough to pay money for Hugh Grant’s hair follicles.

I love the moment when Hugh Grant freaked out for blowing a line for the 3rd time and then the two of them had a little encounter. I found it so satisfying. For HER sake.

  3. Alex says:

She’s brilliant. I love her. She could be our new best friend.

  4. red says:

I am still laughing about the image of someone slitting her throat in joy. I love it.

  5. Lisa says:

“I sometimes watch Raymond, and you know what? I laugh, so fuck you and your high brow judgment.”

    BWAAHAHAHA

As someone who loves Hugh Grant more than is humanly possible (Seriously. I OWN “Mickey Blue Eyes.” Shut up.), I am extraordinarily jealous of her. I. Would. Die.

  6. red says:

Lisa – I loved that line too!!! “and you know what? I laugh.”

    hahahaha

And I love Hugh, too. In pretty much everything. But mostly About a Boy. That was such a good performance – it was funny, and smart – and he has one moment that is the most honestly hopeless I have ever seen from him. So touching. It moves me every time I see it. I really wonder if it’s a situation where … he’s so good that people don’t really get how good it is?? I mean, I know he’s a big star … but sometimes I think he doesn’t really get the props for how good he is.

  8. red says:

I love how she describes everyone (including squirrels) freezing when he freaks out. hahahaha

    I just love her writing.

  9. Nightfly says:

They were at ADVENTURELAND?!?!? I am bitterly jealous. I love that place. Grew up about 25 minutes away. Damn it I’m in the wrong business!

  10. Nightfly says:

PS – the psychotic cannibal french-fry box gnawing on one of his own kind is from after my time. I think I would have wet myself if I’d seen that as an eight year old.

  11. JFH says:

Okay, I’m an instant fan, like “Bad News Hughes” I sure wish she’d write more.

  12. jean says:

Oh my god so fucking funny! And right when you think it’s over there is the french fry smoking cone of fries! hahahahaha
