Posted for Allison (we're going to see The Long Goodbye this weekend at the Film Forum.) So this is for her. (And also for Mitchell. and Alex. And Babs lovers everywhere.) I particularly ADORE her beehive. The beehive and the bikini.

Barbra Streisand and Elliot Gould
Posted by sheila | TrackBackEver see "I Can Get It For You Wholesale"? A bad movie with great performances (go figure). It's a shame they didn't last. They would have been such perfect Fockers.
Posted by: Daniel Berczik at April 20, 2007 2:59 PMLOVE this photo. The beehive. Her chin lifted for a direct gaze into the camera. How her belly is a little white. Her fingers splayed across his face. And they are both so incredibly young.
Excellent.
Posted by: Marisa at April 20, 2007 3:04 PMMarisa - I know, right?
The nails!!
The whole photo has just has such an innocence and fun about it.
Posted by: red at April 20, 2007 3:06 PMI always forget that they were married at one time...
Posted by: JFH at April 20, 2007 3:48 PMI can just hear her:
"You'd BETTER not drop me and mess up my hair!!"
Hee.
Posted by: GypsyCurls at April 20, 2007 3:54 PMI know!!! She's such a girl. I love it.
It also just reminds me of the hairdos my mom and her sisters wore - these old family photos from the early 60s, my parents on a date in high school - my mom with her hair pouffed like that, etc.
Elliot Gould was sort of cute back then. In a quirky way. But I like quirky.
Posted by: Marisa at April 20, 2007 4:17 PMi love "girly" Barbra...she seems to know, in that look of "faux" haughtiness, what her future holds..ya know..The Tao of Barbra..the major tenet of which is "know thyself and then make it happen!"...she understood that early!!!
Posted by: mitchell at April 20, 2007 4:45 PMMitchell - ha! Aren't her nails proof positive of that sense of destiny?
An act of rebellion towards her mother who wanted her to be a secretary?
"Ma, how can I type with THESE NAILS???"
Posted by: red at April 20, 2007 5:10 PMSuch an unconventionally beautiful face and yet so attractive and sexy. Too bad she's become so shrill and unpleasant in recent years.
Posted by: Scaramouche at April 20, 2007 5:33 PMScaramouche - "shrill and unpleasant" is in the eye of the beholder.
Next comment, please. And before you comment again, read my comment policy. Thanks!
Posted by: red at April 20, 2007 6:41 PMthank you Sheila...Nancy Grace is shrill and unpleasant! Babs is just ...well...opinionated! And i can't get enuf!
Posted by: mitchell at April 21, 2007 12:26 PMI loved your description of seeing her in concert recently - I'm so jealous!!
and hahahaha Nancy Grace
Posted by: red at April 21, 2007 12:28 PMAnd Babs as the Fokker mother. Genius - with the bad perm, and being all new agey and intrusive - but always in a "loving" way - like asking her son if his fiance has orgasms ... like, lovingly, concerned ... about her "yoni" - hahahahaha It's like: mom, back OFF!!
Posted by: red at April 21, 2007 12:33 PMMitchell - by the way - Allison and I are seeing Long Goodbye today - have you seen it?? I'm sure yes - it'll be my first time seeing it, and I'm really excited.
Posted by: red at April 21, 2007 12:34 PMyes..and there is an Altman festival all summer at the Music Box..so i will see it again!!! have fun!!!...also re: Fockers...when Babs chastises Ben for being a hypocrite to please DeNiro..its the only really human dramatic moment in the movie..its beautiful...but mostly she's hilarious!! i lvoe it when she's rubbing Blythe Danner's ears...so freakin funny! they are old friends..so cute!
Posted by: mitchell at April 21, 2007 4:27 PMI love the shot of her and Dustin Hoffman in bed, rubbing whipped cream on her gorgeous rack ... and Ben Stiller has to go in and tell them to keep it down ... I'm laughing out loud thinking of how much fun she and Dustin must have had - they've known each other since they were, what, 18? That would be like you and me playing a scene like that now! So funny!!!
