IIRC, they had been abducted by their father, who, like you said, drowned. When they arrived in NY, they had to print their pictures in all the papers because, obviously, they were too young to give any info.

Their mother saw them in the paper and came and claimed them. From Italy, I believe.

/Titanic geekiness

I did not know that about the father abducting them!

Posted by: red at July 23, 2007 2:26 PM

That photo just hurts to look at. I hope Lisa's right about the mother claiming them; that's some salve for the topic.

I guess the bigger brother just died in 2001. !!!

Posted by: red at July 23, 2007 2:41 PM

And a quick Wiki check confirms Lisa's Titanic knowledge.

Posted by: Cullen at July 23, 2007 2:41 PM

I aim to please.

Found any obscure European royalty that you need identified?

Posted by: Lisa at July 23, 2007 2:50 PM

You know, no pressure or nothin' ... but I do miss that series you used to do.

:)

I loved when you showed up on the Franz Ferdinand assassination day and gave a bit o' context to that marriage.

Posted by: red at July 23, 2007 2:53 PM

I do so enjoy reading about other people's passions. I love getting so much context with these old stories.

And in the spirit of full disclosure, Hayden is/was the Titanic geek in our household. When he was about 8, his obsession with it reached Sheila-esque proportions, and we have at least 15 books about it and other shipwrecks.

I need to do Marie, Queen of Romania. She will take AT LEAST three posts.

But Typepad for some reason has decided to hate me. I can't log in. My most recent "post" is a fluke.

Posted by: Lisa at July 23, 2007 2:58 PM

Lisa - yeah, Alex's friend Cole is a total expert and he's like 9 years old. But if you read his Titanic posts, you would totally think he was an adult-aged professor!!

Correction -- Oops, no, he's more like 7!

Cullen - me too. Totally!

Posted by: red at July 23, 2007 2:59 PM

Sheila-esque proportions is wonderfully appropriate.

Posted by: Cullen at July 23, 2007 2:59 PM

He still watches the movie, but I think now it's more to see Kate Winslet's boob.

Posted by: Lisa at July 23, 2007 3:02 PM

Frankly, that's why I watch the movie too. But I'm weird.

Posted by: red at July 23, 2007 3:05 PM

I wasn't a very big fan of Kate until Eternal Sunshine ..., but it's why I watch Titanic now. :)

Posted by: Cullen at July 23, 2007 3:20 PM

Cole is gonna flip when he sees this. I just e mailed it to him.

Posted by: Alex at July 23, 2007 4:19 PM

Wait. I thought everyone rewatches Titanic to see Kate's boob.

Posted by: Rebecca at July 23, 2007 7:40 PM

And now for something completely different - you might get a kick out of this sculpture of the Titanic by Willard Wigan, since we're on the subject.

Scroll down, it's the fifth one - second from the last.

Sheila,

Thank you so much I am sorry i have been in football camp and taking cooking classes so I have not been at the computer lately.

I am starting to be able to type on my own but it takes me awhile. I am glad my Mom didn't dress me like a girl when I was little. They dressed boys so weird back then.

I have to go I have fishing class and Ghosts of Chicago today...

Thanks again Cole

Cole -

They did dress boys funny back then!

I thought you'd be really interested to see that. Hope you are having a great summer!
