Hepburn, stage actress

A collection of letters and journals and scrapbooks from the estate of Katharine Hepburn has been donated to the NY Public Library. Awesome stuff - it all appears to deal with her career as a stage actress. And check out the slideshow of wonderful images.

Cool, right?? I love the Shaw bit. I also love her for continuing to go back to the stage. Realizing in her 40s that she was afraid of Shakespeare. So what did she do? Toured the world in productions of Shakespeare plays. Trembling with fear, working hard on her voice (which many people had said, including herself, was problematic - she also didn't use it correctly - so she would lose her voice during a long run) - anyway, she was fearless. Of course she FELT fear but she did it BECAUSE she felt afraid. I really admire that!

She sent me a signed copy of her book "ME" with a little note that instructed me to paste the note inside the book so it would be worth SOMETHING when she kicked the bucket! She was funny, but didn't try to be.Bytheway, I'm tutoring a new student on Hamlet. What do you think is the best film production? Thanks

Susan - I actually really like the Kenneth Branagh one. Kate Winslet's mad scene can't be beat.

But maybe other readers will have other choices??
