This post has a little something for everyone!!
Actually – there are boys with cars pictured, too – so it REALLY has something for everyone!
I get so into the details in photos like these. The shoes, the vest of the dude whom I believe is Edward Everett Horton – who was so hysterical and wonderful in Holiday. I love his pockets – the cigarette holders – the T-strap shoes … the rolled-up overalls of Mary Carlisle … the hats … the saddle shoes of Mary Pickford (WHICH I WANT), the truly bizarre outfit of Leatrice Joy … … the signs in the background … and then of course … the cars!!!
Yes, that is indeed Edward Everett Horton, and doesn’t he look delighted? So fun. I also love the picture of Buster Keaton taking a nap on his running board. Is Leatrice Joy the one in a dress with – what is it – windmills on each scalloped skirt hem? Lordy, not so gorgeous!
I especially love some of the houses in the background, and the charming garden court apartment complexes, all stucco and arches and quintessentially So Cal. Mmmmm, that was a stylish period, no doubt.
Thanks for sending me there, sweetie!

Cars? What cars?
Stevie – yes, although I believe Letitia’s skirt has big potted TULIPS on them, ad nauseum. She looks like a cross between the “modest dressing” craze which all right-minded people make fun of, a stern school marm with the tie, and a caryatid with the flowing drapes.
It is quite an unfortunate outfit! But I love how she’s standing in the middle of, oh, Kansas – in that getup – with her brokedown car – and the telephone poles going off into the distance. Great picture!!
I LOVE the Car Queen, Jean Harlow. The first picture of the series in that post is breathtakingly beautiful (and I COVET the short-sleeved sweater Jean’s wearing in that pic).
I wish I had been born in 1905 and been able to dress like those chicks, I love the fashions of the ’20s and ’30s!
Ceci – I’m totally with you on that one.
I love the shoes in particular!
