2007 Year in Pictures

The White Horse Tavern, Greenwich Village, NY. Where Dylan Thomas apparently spoke his last words: "I've just had 18 whiskeys. I think that's the record."

That's a great picture! I still remember us going to that place the last time I came out and having to settle for a less crowded joint across the street.

The sad thing about that quote - which is really, really funny, if you can manage to forget that Thomas died and everything - is that it was the last thing he said before lapsing into a coma. He woke up in the hospital several days later and the real last words he spoke were supposedly "thirty-nine years, and this is all I've done." That tears my flipping heart out. It's such a contrast - from that foolishly happy boast to having the only thought you can express in your last moments to be one of regret.

Emily - Man. I did not know that about the coda to that well-told white horse tavern story. Makes me really sad.

If I could say I had done as much as he had done at 39 ...

And yes, I loved our crazy group-walk across town, you holding your towel from Hitchhiker's, and White Horse was a madhouse - it kind of always is ... and then we holed up in that joint and put Jar Jar Binks thru hell, as I recall. Made him get really drunk.

Ahh, the Tavern. I had probably one of the best nights of my life there with Bridget, Uncle Jimmy, Bridgie's friends. There were many drop-ins by various family members. We sat outside at the sidewalk tables for hours. Randomly, Uncle Tom showed up and had a few drinks (I believe it was his birthday). :ater on that night, Bridget's friend Ian drove us up to Bren and Andy's apartment in his piece of shit car and we blasted "Jack and Diane" from a boom box the entire way. We then proceeded to buzz brendan at the wrong apartment at 3 am.
