Alex carries the diva torch, if she don't mind my saying so!! Clip below of her one-woman show (parts of it anyway) - I'm bummed I just missed her most recent (and mindblowing) show in Chicago. She just GOES for it - in the way those other divas do: with gesture, and focus, passion - all at once.
Posted by sheila | TrackBackof course im biased...but seeing our dear friend Ms. Billings is a thrilling experience...carrying the torch is right..she gives US the song...everyone ive ever brought to one of her shows becomes a lifelong fan...this anecdote is the best...standing in the wings during our circus show together...Alex was on stage nailing Come Rain or Come Shine ..to the wall..whipping the mike stand like Judy Garland and Iggy Pop had a baby...a very talented.very young, very str8,..very rural vermont-raised performer turned me and all he could say was..."She's my fucking hero!"..mine too John..mine too!
