Movie Poster: Raiders of the Lost Ark

You know, I like all the posters for this particular series, but there’s just something about the first one. It’s CHEESY, first of all (something more serious fanboys would do well to remember when they criticize the latest film for being “unrealistic” – huh? What are you boys, on crack?) … and looks like an old poster, like the one for Casablanca, with basically all the characters of the movie, floating in disembodied heads behind the two leads.

I like it for its self-consciously throwback nature. I also like it because of the memories it brings up.

A-frikkin-men. Aliens from another dimension aren’t as realistic as the magic Nazi-melting Moses box? Really? Shut up.

God, everything about this one is so right.

Mark – what is the matter with those fanboys?

Honestly. They were bitching and moaning about that refrigerator flying through the sky with him in it (and I personally thought that was one of the best scenes) and how unrealistic it was – and I was like – what part of floating melty skeletons is realistic?

    Morons.

Sorry. They’re just mad that they are now middle-aged, that’s what’s the problem is … and they feel like everything was better BACK THEN when they were young and everything is RUINED now, just RUINED.

Uhm, no. Things were better back then – not because they were actually better – but because you were YOUNG and not OLD, that’s why.

    Get over yourselves!!

Yeah, when I think of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first thing that comes to mind is “kitchen-sink realism”.

I saw this back in college in Pasadena at a preview screening before its wide release. I remember thinking, “Wow, Harrison Ford really is a big star!” Hard to remember a time when that was a question.

He had been in several movies by then, the first two (or episodes 4 and 5 ) of Star Wars, Apocalypse Now, American Graffiti, etc – but I think this was the first time that he was the main character.

He looks like he’s having so much fun in the poster – how could you not want to see the movie?
