Sláinte! Metallica “Whiskey in the Jar,” Dublin, 2006: “Hear Dublin Roar!”

An exhilarating performance of the unofficial Irish national anthem.

For St. Paddy’s Day. Not “Patty’s”, you philistines.

I was listening to this at the gym last night. It never gets old. Metallica play the hell out of it, and Hetfield’s solo is one of my favorites. Erin Go Bragh!

    Hi Sheila!
You write so much I can’t keep the pace! I love everything you write, and I want to read everything, you show so many other paths. links, etc.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! There are so many Irish things, books, films and people to love, I want to tell you my favorite Irish person (and is hard to chose) is Sir Ernest Shackleton, his almost arriving to the South Pole and returning, his incredible voyage with the Endurance and to rescue his men, and his writings, prose so reflective and self contained while describing heroic adventures, it’s a wonder.
Metallica with thousands singing and dancing there, a treat!

Cla – I love the story of Ernest Shackleton so much!! I think my favorite detail of that story – which shows what a true leader he was – is that he sensed which of his guys was a potential trouble-maker (or, he already was a trouble-maker), and so he took that guy with him on his journey to get help. He didn’t trust to leave him behind with the others – he thought he might stir up some shit among the men left behind. So intuitive.
