Teddy Roosevelt’s diary entry for Feb. 14, 1884.

On February 12, his wife Alice gave birth to their daughter. Two days later, on February 14, Alice died. Catastrophically, his mother also died on that day.

    How sad-to have his mother and wife die on the same day? How could a person bear that?

    Well, that’s just the most painful thing to think on. So much loss of love in one day.
